ARMAN's BMW 318iS E30 - "M3" for beginners :)
« on: 10-Mar-2008, 22:51:18 »
As waiting to save enough money for sleeper e30 325i from Germany is killing me, to have a little more fun with my old beater I've switched the engine from 1,8i (M40) to 1,8iS (M42) Its about 23 pony's more than in old 113HP engine.
This engine have sport camshaft and lightened flywheel apparently that should add some more pony's to the herd but I have no idea how many of them  only engine itself was switched the rest is same as was. Catalyser was removed so now car have a bit peppered sound wich is only a good thing :P Engine swap + work costed a nice 520€

Car pulls better than with old engine but I have no idea what all e30 nutters are so blown away with it...

ze before

ze after

From the last update elswere was bought and added few goodies:

Mtech 2 steering wheel

Original Recaro seats from e30 cabrio bought yesterday for a few penny's(still cant believe my luck) as one seat is broken in two areas need to be welded, leather will be cleaned, colored, filled cracks and get lotioned

Chromed rings placed into dials

now I need LSD for some drifting practice

wohooooo congratz alex - have you done the engine swap by yourself or everything in a garage?

next thing: get a vacuum cleaner and get rid of all the dirt thats inside of your car :D

I´ve heard that the original bmw leather lotion should be very good. How much will it cost to have the seats fixed?

I have no place for fixing the car so it was done by local bmw mechanic :)
About the seats I dont know really I think it might cost within 20-30€... well I hope so

I desperatly need LSD but as TAU 2008 is coming there will be no more investments in the car for a while

tadaaa :cheerleader: :lala:

finally the engine-swap done! did you think it now will go like a stink? nah, not that fast, but there MUST be seriously a "visible" change! speaking of "visibility" - your beema still looks too civil, it needs some grades - iS front lip to look lower, some nice back-window shade wouldn't be bad either
can't wait to meet you and see THA CAR in flesh next week :)
damn I envy you those seats!!! but having a dark car and no air-con, it would be "nice to sit" in summer

What prompted the engine swap Alex? Did you do it just 'cause or did the old one go out?

Either way - it makes your car interesting. Hope your wait isn't too terrible.

Sweet! Nice engine upgrade considering you have such tight restrictions on swapping motors.

Upgraded cam and flywheel must really get that engine revving! Your E30 is looking real good, those sport seats are in pretty good condition.  :good:

The car looks very good. Nice swap with the engine. I'm sure there's more fun to have now. I'm more disappointed that I can't join you at the Ring this summer. I would so like to see all your cars... and ofcourse all you guys  ;)

19th is fine for me. I thought about the 18th... the first night I'm there, so you can recommend and give me some tips of places to see, especially the ones far from Prague.....

^^than KFC it is then! I am on the diet too, BigMac diet :)

Thanx everybody ;)

Old engine was weak peformance wise, if everything workout fine old engine will be sold tomorrow for 100€ :nutz: While waiting for saving enough money for 325i I thought I can still have some fun with this car, later it can become a weekend thrash car for racetracks/drifts and so thats why I was looking for LSD.

Its damn loud now in revs over 3000rpm, not that dont like it but donno if thats a rattling chain or its cause of different camshaft is there and the cat is out  LOL I need to drive a stock iS to know the difference.

Car got waxed for the first time and washed for... third time probably

Washing your car every now and then doesn't hurt...

Your 318is looks pretty hot now, love the black wheels... and I think the white/black colour combo really looks great on the E30 body! wouldn't mind having one just like yours..... :good:
