Why would you make a classic 911 look like a new 911? Just seems rather stupid to me, sorry...

You're right. As admirable as it can be, it is really pointless. May be he just wanted an air-cooled 996 GT3 RSR afterall

Chris Harris' 911 project makes much more sense, updating an old 911 with modern brakes, suspension, aircon, iPod dock... BUT keeping the looks of the original thing. I'd like to know how much has be spent on this... bet it's not much more than a 996 GT3 RSR race actually :?

I also think that a classic 911 is such a pure design that it's not a good idea to transfrom it as a modern car  :?

In his defense, the website says that it's a race car and that in the process of making it, they replaced the panels with carbon pieces.  I assume, probably because 996 carbon pieces are more easily available than 1969 carbon body panels.  They kept the 1969 chassis because it's easier to work with in a tube frame configuration.  Pretty amazing looking motor.  Looking at the likely value of that race car, I'd say they probably wouldn't have a problem buying a 996 to race, if they wanted.

I'll take my '93 RSA over any standard 996 or 997 any day.  You'd have to tempt me with a GT3 or GT2...I don't even know if money wasn't an issue, whether I'd want a 996 or 997 turbo?  Old school has just so much style....   :good:

Even if the Chris Harris' 911 project is a more rational approache, I'm not against this 911 project at all...because I'm also a big fan of the 996 RSR shape too.  ;)

The final result is really cool and his Air cooled biturbo engine looks quite impressive.  :good:
