Carprices around the world
« on: 25-Apr-2008, 21:19:08 »
Let us choose some cars and compare them, the price of the basemodel. Also include extra taxes
I've picked some models that I think you can find everywhere. And please convert the currency to either Euro or Dollar.

Belgium 21% tax:

Toyota Prius Hybrid - € 26.000 + € 61.5
Mini Cooper S - € 24.090 + € 1.239
VW Golf GTI - € 25.950 + € 2.478
BMW 325i - € 34.600 + € 2.478
Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro - €41.300  + 4.957 €
Subara Impreza WRX STi - € 43.295 + € 4.957
Porsche Cayenne S - € 68.970 + € 4.957
Dodge Viper SRT-10 - € 113.700 + € 4.957
Ferrari F430 -  €174.555 + €4.957

The second set of numbers is our in traffic going tax that every carowned has to pay. And if you buy the car second hand, you have to pay the tax again. We also have a yearly roadtax, for the stupid prius that's almost €200, for the F430 it is about €1800 and the Viper is €3400 a year. It depends on the engine you have.
The only thing that is not fair is the in traffic going tax, the highest amount is €4.957 and you pay that once you have more then 210bhp.

Let's have an interesting topic...

Ok I'll do the U.S. I'll post dollars and Euros since I'm using a website to convert the currency and it may be off a euro or two (xe.com) -  Tax varies by state here so I'll just mention that Nevada state tax is 7.6% and my new car prices are coming from kbb.com (what we yanks call The Blue Book) I'm using the MSRP price for the base model like you requested.

Toyota Prius Hybrid: $21,760  or  €13,893
Mini Cooper S: $21,850  or  €13,951
VW Golf GTI: $23,450  or  €14,972
BMW 328i: $33,175  or  €21,182
Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro: $38,025  or  €24,278
Subru Impreza WRX STi: $35,640  or  €22,756
Porsche Cayenne S: $58,795  or  €37,540
Dodge Viper SRT-10 (convertible): $87,091  or  €55,607
Ferrari F430 (F1 shift): $191,775  or  €122,446

*whew* I hope more people participate, this is going to be interesting.

I remember doing the same thing in JW. I even compiled a lit comparing all the countries. Probably missing by now.

Toyota Prius:  26,156 €
Mini Cooper S: 22,050 €
VW Golf GTi (3-door): 22,568 €
BMW 325i (sedan): 33,280 €
Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro: 39,324 €
Subaru Impreza WRX STi: 40,283 €
Porsche Cayenne S: 65,807 €
Dodge Viper SRT-10: not sold here
Ferrari F430: not sold here

Since the last two aren't sold here, I thought I'd get prices on some alternatives, oddly Porsche didn't list the price of the 997 Turbo, but:

Lamborghini Gallardo (coupe): 160,480 €

All prices are also baseprices including the tax, I'm not sure about the extra fees, the amound depends on where you live.

There's a new system here that makes the car less/more expensive according to its CO2 emissions.

Toyota Prius : 25.550 € - 700€
Mini Cooper S : 23.500 €
VW Golf GTi : 27.100 € + 750 €
BMW 325i : 35.400 € + 750 €
Audi A4 3.2 FSI Quattro : 37.700 € + 1 600 €
Subaru Impreza WRX STi : 45.000 € + 1 600 €
Porsche Cayenne S : 67.952 € + 2 600 €
Dodge Viper SRT-10 : 110.000 € + 2 600 €
Ferrari F430 : 172.535€ (F1 gearbox + 6 940€) + 2 600 €

Norway, the automotive shithole

Toyota Prius Hybrid -     € 40.100,-  $62.700,-
Mini Cooper S -             € 57.000,-   US$89.100,-
VW Golf GTI -               € 53.000,-   US$83.000,-
BMW 325i -                  € 98.000,-   US$153.200,-
Audi A4 3.2 FSI Q -       €99.000,-     US$155.000,-
Impreza WRX STi -      € 107.000,-    US$168.000,-
Porsche Cayenne S -   € 207.000,-    US$324.000,-
Dodge Viper SRT-10 -  € 250.000,-    US$392.000,-
Ferrari F430 -             €376.000,-    US$588.000,-

Roadtax: Diesel cars: €390
             Petrol cars: €340
First time registration tax: up to €3.500,-
re-registration tax (if bought used): €500-€3.500

Fuel: Diesel:€1,56 pr litre   /£5,59 pr UK gallon   / $9.23 pr US gallon
Petrol: €1,56 pr litre   /£5,59 pr UK gallon  /  $9.23 pr US gallon

edit: checked with customs online, the viper is a base prise €250.000,- (not 200k)

horsepower tax:
0-88hp    -  € 16,-  pr hp
89-122hp -  € 63,-  pr hp
123-177hp- €151,- pr hp
178hp-       €315,- pr hp

CO2 tax:
first 120g/km   €  5,3 pr gram
next 20g/km    € 24 pr gram
next 40g/km    € 63 pr gram
over 180g/km  €176 pr gram

weight tax:
first 1.250kg   € 4,5 pr kg
next 250kg     € 9,4 pr kg
next 100kg     €18,6pr kg
over 1500kg   €24,4 pr kg

displacement tax petrol engines:
1000cc   €1.330,-
1200cc   €1.592,-
1400cc   €2.280,-
1500cc   €2.643,-
1600cc   €2.983,-
1800cc   €3.635,-
1900cc   €4.515,-
2000cc   €5.390,-
2500cc   €10.100,-
3000cc   €15.200,-
4000cc   €25.500,-
5000cc   €35.600,-

the displacement tax is much lower for diesels, so this whole dumbass system which is supposed to be enviromentally friendly (the gov tell us) actually favours very old 2-4litre diesels without particle filters. Organisations like NAF (ADAC/AAA), SINTEF (largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia)protest and say the system is crap, and that it causes for a lot more pollution, the government make their own surveys and pollutin readings, and stand completely arrogant on the side. Last month they were out saying they were wrong, and NAF and SINTEF were right in that 1 litre of diesel pollute a lot more than 1 litre of petrol....as a result they raised the fixed diesel taxes with €0,02/litre (too reduce emissions) It's almost like entrapment when you concider that after these new taxes from 2007, 70% of all new cars sold were diesels because the politicians scared the people with horrible petrol taxes..and then after sales raise the diesel tax.....
