Our New 2008 Honda Odyssey People Carrier!
« on: 02-May-2008, 15:50:51 »
Well, we did it! All we intended to do yesterday was go look at them, but one thing led to another and well, we bought the damn thing! A new 2008 Honda Odyssey.  I know, I know,  :worthless: but we left it at the dealer last night and will pick it up later today, we are having a higher end DVD player installed for the kids, the factory model had a tiny screen, I cannot play Forza 2 with my kids, while my wife drives, on that little damn screen! It is almost the same colour as my STi, only a shade darker, which was pretty cool.  I promise to post pics later today when i get it picked up, I know you guys just cannot wait to see my new mini-van!  :nutz:
Actually, I was pretty impressed with it, reluctantly so, but surprised nonetheless. It has traction control; to keep it from under or over-steering and to keep it on the novice drivers intended course in slippy conditions; the sliding doors open automatically which is really cool, the kids love that; it actually handles pretty decently, very car-like, despite the weight. Another cool feature is that you can move the seats around in different combinations. It will be much more accommodating when we all ride together, two car seats, my nearly adult sized 10 year old son, and my wife and I. It is cavernous compared to our old Mitsubishi Endeavor, which is good as we had to ditch one of the car-seats for all of us to fit in it together. Pictures and a full report coming later lads, feel pity for me, the purchase of one of these things is the final surrender! I could have bought a really decent used 911 for what we just paid! :banghead:
The Pics!

And the two together:

LONG LIVE JW!

Congrats on the new ride! :D Sure, it's not a 911, but those Odysseys have some decent pick-up for a minivan. I think they are one of the better looking minivans out there too, and it sounds like it has a lot of neat features. Maybe next time you can get the 911. ;)

Congrats! I actually like the way the Odyssey looks  If I had to get a minivan, it would definitely be that!

Hope you have many safe and fun miles with her!  :good:

So the government hammered the decision to the table? ;)  It's a nice looking ride and new car is always a new car. :good: Does it have a parking camera? I saw one in action in my workmates smaller Honda MPV and I must say I was impressed.
Movable seats are a very good invention and make the life much more easier for the family. About the 911. Life is full of sacrifises and an average family man makes many of them, but in the end I'm still 100% sure it pays of.
Seb is looking like a happy fellow with incredibly nice big brown eyes. :good:

Congrats for the new car!

Hey congrats wackary! Sure it's no 911 but you do still have that STi to throw around. I wish you and your family many many happy and safe miles inside the big gal.

And btw, that little Seb is adorable. He's the prince of custom shots  :)

hey nice car, which you got, it's not good looking as the subaru, but as a family racer it's good looking, better than a mazda or a voyager.

Yeah it is absolutely pushing some air! When you let off the gas at high speed though it just keeps going effortlessly. I used to have a Mitsubishi cargo van, a little box shaped tiny little thing which I used to tote around motorbikes, that thing was a BRICK. When you chopped the throttle it was like putting on the brakes!
It really is not as bad as the nightmare I envisioned  :nutz: strangely enough the kids really dig it, all the gadgets, the auto doors and the cool little details, the DVD player and A L L that s p a c e , the thing is cavernous.
The day we bought it, they let us take home a demo home, while they installed the DVD player, and I drove it pretty aggro, the thing actually handled ok.

Don't know if I should say congrats for the new car or sorry for not getting a 911 instead :P j/k don't worry dude... I'm sure sooner or later you'll be able to afford a 911 :)

As for the mini-van... it looks great, definitely better than most mini-vans if you ask me. And it seems to be loaded with some good stuff... like the automated sliding doors or the DVD screens... I bet your kids will be entertained! And I also like the fact that you can re-arrange the back seats in many different combinations! If I was in your position and needed a bigger family car, I think I would look for something just like this :) and well... you should feel glad you didn't had to sell the Scooby :P

Yeah, they claim 244 and it feels it. The thing is honestly not at all bad to drive! Seriously, it handles well and you soon forget how big it is! I really am pleasantly surprised, my wife and I actually agrue over who gets to drive it when we all go somewhere! The space is just amazing, we went to see an exhibit last weekend and took our three boys and two of the neighbors kids along and it was perfectly comfortable, we all had space. The kids watched videos and it was a very peaceful journey. The exhibit was cool too: http://www.exploreum.com/exhibits.html They had actual human bodies coated with some kind of polymer which preserved them.. the cutaways and sectioned parts were astounding, just amazing! The display is the same as seen inthe latest James Bond movie. We went to that with 6 boys and they all (except the little baby) giggled profusely whenever there was a penis on display! It was quite funny!

Very offtopic, but I've seen the pics of that exhibit and those body-thingys are amazing.

Congrats on the new sled. That thing F'ing rocks! we had a minivan back in the day which took us on a 8000+mile trip to alaska. It looks like it would have been a lot more comfortable in that rig. you should def take that to a track day along with the Scooby. if i had to guess i would say our minivan had at the most 120hp.

edit

this was our sick ride

^ I love those old  Japanese minivans, they were truly mini! My dad bought us one when we lived in Japan to haul around my MX bikes and I actually learned to drive in it, RHD drive an all. I had a lot of adjustment to do when we moved back to the states! I bought myself an old Mitsubishi cargo van back in 2003, it was an 80's model and I got it for $750.00. I will try to find some pics as it was really quite humorous. I bought some aluminum sheet metal at the hardware store and a box of sheet metal screws and lined the inside with it and then I hung up two plywood panels with the little holes in them to hang tools and gear, which I painted using chalkboard paint. It ended up being really kind of cool and VERY unusual around here. I drove it a million miles, to every racetrack in the Southeast US roadracing my old SV. It used to be so light in the back unloaded that it was a total drift mobile! Especially in the rain, that thing went sideways all the time!  It looked like a clown car at the circus. The last year of its life it was running on 3 cylinders, but it still ran. I drove it on 3 cylinders all the way to Jennings Gp racetrack and back, that was like 800miles or more! It actually went on to run an entire year of errands on three cylinders! I finally gave it away to a good home; a father wanted it for his teenage sons rock band, perfect! I do miss it sometimes, it was so unusual and was kind of fun to drive in a perverse sort of way.

those toyota vans are kind of cool I remember being in one, there was a large cooler in the middle of it, good for short roads trips and beer.  :)
