Thinking about selling the E30...
« on: 03-Jun-2008, 22:19:24 »
so I can get my first sport bike to save on commuting costs (and summer fun)

Leaning towards getting a 2008 Kawasaki 250R because it was nicely updated this year and gets amazing gas mileage, 70mpg...

but I can't help but think how much happier I'd be if I just got a 600cc, but it would have to be used to cut down the initial costs.

I might  be able to get away with keeping the E30 and financing the bike, but I'm starting to have to put some needed money/work into the E30 and the idea of getting rid of the car before it needs anything major is a little tempting.

Not sure what my plan will be, but I DEFINITELY want to get a bike ASAP. I get so damn envious every time I see one on the road..

That's a good question... and I guess the "any small 40hp hatchback will do just fine" answers it quite well

If you're so decided to go for a bike... keeping the E30, especially considering it needs some "investments" to keep it in good shape, I'd get rid of it... you can get some good money for it right now :)

It's probably a good idea, especially if you are concerned about some upcoming heavy maintenance, best to bail while you're still having fun right!

For winter commuting you have a Rav-4?

Yup.. still got the RAV4 going strong at 160,000 miles. It's a great beater, but it sucks down gas while going extremely slow..

If you are getting a bike, I would highly recommend a Suzuki SV650. You would be much happier with it over the little kawasaki 250, it is a much more versatile motorbike. I owned one for several years and it was a terrific all around motorbike for the money, the perfect size. The gas mileage was quite good, depending upon how aggro you ride it, any bike is better than a car when it comes to petrol :) get the proper gear and you can ride for much of the year.

SV650 would definitely be nice, hopefully one comes up for cheap within a short distance from my house in NY.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep the BMW, but I might just post a couple "feeler" threads on some E30 forums to see if I anyone would want to pay my asking price.

As long as I can find a great deal on a bike, the BMW should be safe. So far I'm looking at a couple used Buell Blasters 500cc, a Honda 250 night hawk and possibly a buddies' friend's mom's honda 250 which I could pick up for a couple hundred bucks.. only problem is that it is in Massachusetts, and I'm going to need it at my place in NY.

Sorry ARMAN!! Honestly, I'm probably only having the thought of getting rid of Elloise because I have been in Boston stuck with my RAV4 for almost 2 weeks.. I'm on my way back to NY in a few hours, and I already plan on jumping right into to her once I arrive for a quick spin, even though I really need to get the brakes bled and pads changed. Hopefully the roads are still wet ;)

wackary, how is the seat height on the SV650? I'm a small guy ranking in at 5' 6.5" The used market for tthose bikes should be affordable, and they look great, especially naked with the street fighting look.
