My Clio 16v - NEW VID ADDED 27/01
« on: 19-Dec-2007, 19:48:31 »
Its a '96 Clio 16v.  Has the 1.8 F7P engine that was also in the renault 19 16v.

Engine
F7P unit having covered around 103k miles

No internal engine modifications.

Transmission
JB3 Clio 16v Gearbox
Standard Clutch

Modifications
Hill Power Induction kit with CAF from fog light.
Magnex Cat-back exhaust with 3" inward rolled lip
De-cat

Brakes
Standard Discs with mintex extreme pads.

Suspension
Standard renault suspension with lowering springs & torsion beam to match
Lowered 35mm

Wheels & Tyres
Renault Standard Phase 2 Speedline Vega alloys
Yokohama Parada Spec-2 195/55/15 tyres

Exterior
640 Iceberg Silver

Interior
Factory fitted Phase 2 leather interior
Lightly stripped.

Ive had the car since early april of 2007, and have loved every minute of owning it.  Despite being dyno'd at 133bhp which might not sound like the earth, it weighs around 1000kg so it shifts and feels very nimble. 0-60 is in the high 7's and it will do just over 130mph, although ive only ever once been brave enough to take it to 120 despite it having a fair bit more to give.

Power delivery isnt fantastic it must be said, valvers are renowned for being peaky and ive certainly found that to be the case.  Low down torque is poor, but once you get past 4500rpm it picks up its skirt and fucks off on a mission to headbut the horizon!

The colour combination of iceburg silver and the factory fitted leather is ultra rare which is nice for that bit of individuality.

Phone cam vid.  Gives an idea of induction noise.  Before i hit the brakes for the corner i touch just over 70.

Did I say that I LOVE your car Tom?

I'm really tempted to buy one actually... it's just that I have no room for it in the garage :? anyway... I see one every weekend, with 16in Renault Sport Speedline Acropolis wheels, not the ones on the official gr.A car but VERY close, stripped out, rollcage, lateral exhaust... parked ALWAYS on the same spot. It's kinda abandoned... because it can be parked for 3 weeks in the same place, dirty, and the next day it's clean and parked just 15 metres away... no telefon or "for sale" ad... but I'd really like to find the owner

1000kg curb weight sounds like a lot of fun:)

Pretty cool car as far as small hatches go.

Quite amazing performance figures as well for such a small engine. 0-60 in high 7's. That's what my friends 328i does. :P Though he has an automatic.

Ohh btw Dani you mgiht be interested, over on cliosport.net - a forum im on all to do with clio's, there is a guy building a cup racer thast going to be rather special.  Instead of just buying an ex-cup car, hes got a ph1 172 stripped it COMPLETELY inc. tar & sound deadening and is putting a supercharged, ITB'd F4R lump in it!

Its a long thread but worth the read.

^ it's not the first time I've heard a story like that

Supercharged or turbocharged Clios are getting rather popular these days - although I still prefer a factory purpose-build racer as the Clio I have

Thanks for the link anyway, I'll have a look tomorrow... and BTW, I think I'm registered to that forum actually :P

Took these when i went out with my mate and his 106 GTI today.  Both cars are pretty dirty but show the state of the car as it is now.

Also, check this one out of my mates uber stiff gti tri-podding!

Nice shots, I love 106gti's btw. Your clio is looking great aswell. Another thing is them roads. I feel sorry for people who have small light cars and aint had the chance to driver in the yorkshire moors. Its great. Theres nothing better than just blasting around on tight twisty roads with a car that does exzactly what you want it to. I can tell thats what you two was doing. :good:

Definatly a fun road to drive. I wish I could show you my favourite road. It really is a great road and fast with no cars. You can tell that ya mates pug is stiff as fuck somehow by just watching that video. For some reason i cant do hard suspension, my driving style is geared towards a softer setup. Nice sound too, 106's are deeper than I thought.
