They are doing pretty well Mihals, when they stay calm and move slowly they can keep up 

These temperatures used to be more common here in Holland about 20 years ago. When we got a cold period like this people start to get the Elfsteden Fever. It's all about the Elfstedentocht, last time it was held was in 1997:

The Elfstedentocht (English translation: "Eleven Cities Tour"), at 200 km, is the world's largest and longest speed skating competition and leisure skating tour, and is held in the province of Friesland, Netherlands only when the ice along the entire course is 15 cm thick. In 1997 the average speed of the winner was 29.3 km/h!

haha, sounds like a fun! unfortunatelly our river Elbe (one of the bigger ones) is being cruised by Ice breaking ships to not freeze, so we're lost
But yes, on the big watter reservoirs there are big ice skating "roads" to let you go few km on the skates

I've seen some impressive photos from Switzerland, Germany and Italy when winter has really stepped in. The cold spell in here seems to be over at the moment, although the coldest temperature of -42,5°C was measured this morning in Northern Finland. In my region temperature went down to -27°C and my car's battery started to suffer. It did start but kept on warning me about low charge.

As of the press conference today, I also caught the Elfstedentocht fever. About a week of frost is needed, which is just what the forecast is saying. It's going to be close. I'm born and raised in Fryslân, so I'm really looking forward to it! Already told my boss that I'll be over there if it is being held, no matter what.
