Mercedes SLR Speedster

first really cool SLR they made, and probably one of the very few truly cool cars MB has made in the past 10 years or so... I like it! :D

There's also a youtube vid at the bottom of the page, which does indeed look like it's made by MB itself, which is pretty lame, I guess to compensate for the coolness of the car :P

Cool.  :good: Reminds me of old racing cars. I wanna see it without the camo!

Finally Mercedes has the balls to offer something different... and wooha!!! what a cool car!

If this isn't the most radical car they have ever made since.... yeah, since the 300 SLR! :)

I hope they do it right this time, but i almost sure it will have a supercharged hi-displacement engine with a not so good semi auto gearbox...

It's a cool concept, but like DriyF360 says, that thing looks enormous...

Wild looking creature. Have to like it for it's extraordinaryness! :D
How does this windscreen-less thing work? I don't see any "plane" there that would form an rising stream of air to protect the driver's face? What if you get a small bird in our face at 300 km/h  :? Or can you even drive without a helmet?

The sound is nice too. Sounds like supercharged V8 to me.

I don't think driving without a helmet is a wise thing to do. Even with my dads buggy at 90, if a bug hits you it hurts, let alone at speeds of 120+ ...

There was the Renault Spider - IMO of the coolest cars ever made...

It didn't had a windscreen (the second series had one, losing all its coolness IMO) but there was some sort of "air windscreen" that could protect the drivers from little stones and bugs. Talking with an owner in a trackday a couple of years ago, he mentioned that it was impossible to drive that thing without helmet

I guess it's like the Caterham Superlights or the Ariel Atom...

That is what I meant too. There's an "air plane" that sucks in air from infont of the car and then pushes it out from a smaller hole with higher speed creating a short of air windshield. There's nothing like that in the SLR so I guess it's a car to be driven wearing a helmet. I wonder if they sell you one with a car's color :? :)

Well, if you're a real man you go on to win Le Mans :)
