My 2002 Suzuki SV650
« on: 21-Dec-2007, 16:26:07 »
OK, since TT has already broken the ice with a motorbike, I thought I would post up my little track bike. I bought it new in 2002 with the idea of going roadracing, it is eligible in many classes, it is relatively inexpensive and if you crash it, not quite the big deal as if it were a Ducati or MV Agusta. Over the years I have really made this into the perfect track bike/canyon bike.  I have put a lot of work into it, Ohlins rear shock, completely redone front fork internals, lots of little Carbon fiber parts and details to save weight. It can go from street legal to track ready in about 20 minutes. I rarely ride it on the street anymore though, unless I take it up to Deals Gap in Tennessee. To me, this is the perfect lightweight motorbike. In the mountains and on the track I can generally kick ass on much larger bikes.

Wohaa!! That bike looks awesome!! I like the racing look without losing anything of it's naked style... and the number at the back looks just great!! :D didn't know you were also a consumed rider as well... I see we have a new John Surtees on here!! :D

I have raced, held a license and competed in sanctioned events in the following sports:
*Motocross- both amateur and Pro. I started racing when I was 9 years old, go my  pro license at 16 which was fashionable at the time. Sucked as a pro, quit racing MX in 1991;
*Arena Cross- It is what we did in the winter when I lived in Oregon(mid 1980's);
*Observed Trials- i owned a couple Spanish bikes Dani, still own my Merlin DG-3 (although it awaits restoration in boxes in my garage) a very rare spanish machine made by the family of the fine folks who once operated Bultaco. I competed in Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho and BC, Canada. I was the number 2 novice in the northeast US in my first year;
*Road racing- I got my WERA road racing license back in 1986 and raced sprints and endurance racing as an amateur for many years... I bought the SV to get back into racing again after several years away.....;
*Enduro-I used to race Endro events back when we had to keep time, like in Rally racing. they do not do that anymore, now it like a big sprint race through a loop in the woods;
*Desert racing- i have raced in many desert events including the semi-legal Barstow to Vegas run which I do not think they do anymore because of enviornmental concerns;
My ultimate goal was to race in every genre' of motorcycle racing that I could before I die. the only thing i have not tried yet are ice racing, drag racing and flat track racing. Maybe someday...
Now I am into cars and am trying to get my roadracing license SCCA. Then i will get try to get my license to compete in rally which is what i really want to to, the Rally America Series. i had hoped to get into it for the 2008 year but have had a few delays so now it looks like 2009.
So, yeah, I am a moto-madman! Racing is my motive for living. Love to do it, watch it, help other people do it, whatever, just love racng. This is why i think you are one lucky bastard Dani, to have that car and the ability to compete in Spain/Western Europe, now that is fortunate!

It is street legal..well sort of, I mean it can be....we can get away with just a headlight and a taillight/brakelight here, so I do not have to take the turn signals on and off all the time.
Yeah, it has lost a lot of weight over the stock bike and the stock suspension was where they really cut corners! I used to race-prep bikes for many years as a way to make money and i have done a lot of detail work on this machine which gets lots of compliments. Sadly, I rarely ride it anymore...just been too busy to take it to the track or the mountains and now I have the STi so when I do get the chance to do a trackday I choose the car! It hurts too much to make a mistake on the bike and I am getting older...kind of enjoying the relatively pain-free fun of cars over bikes!!!!

Thanks. That bike is my battle machine and I hammer it every time I get to ride it!!!! I think, if the weather allows, I will take it out for a ride when I get home next week, as a x-mas gift to myself!

In the naked mode it's very close to bike I drove my motorcycle drivers license. Looks very nice and I'm sure it goes also. Have you had success on the track with the beast? :)

A very nice machine Wackary, looks like a lot of fun..... :)

Cool track pics too, I have always wondered how it feels like to rush into that first corner after the start goes and all the racers are trying to "fit" thru the corner all at the same time... :scared:

A very Sad time for me guys, I had to sell my motorbike, the SV650 pictured here. Not really happy about it but I really have not ridden it very much at all the past couple years, since I bought the STi.  :banghead: :roulette: :( :cry: :unsure:
The bright side is....maybe my wife will take pity on me over the next couple years and I can get a new Ducati 848
Dreaming on!

Dream on dude! The new 848 / 1098 series is to die for IMO! I still prefer the 748 / 916 era, but well... in white it's a killer for sure!

What TT said! It's sad to see your bike/car go... but if you didn't really had the time to ride her, there was no reason to keep it IMO. Now said that, the new Ducati 848 as the one you've posted looks absolutely stunning in white!  :good:

Hated to see it go but it went to a good home, an appreciative owner and I got a good price for it. Moving forward now, thinking about another bike or possibly a kart....
