Nothing wrong with a 400D, it's what ive been using the last 18months and the only reason im upgrading is for the bigger body and better ergonomics of the 40D, that and wanting a new toy lol. If it wasnt for that I'd be sticking with my 400D and spending money on lenses.

Yeah, the 400D is a good camera. I'm not really using it's potentials at all at the moment. I'm having some difficulties finding the good setup for different lighting situations. Automatic gives me allways the flash and it's not always welcome. Still, I'm going to spend money on a lens before even thinking about buying a new camera or anything like that. Allthough it's a nice passtime to go checking what the stores have to offer

guys, need help with the lense please!
I decided to buy Canon EF 70-200mm F4L USM

my question is: is there any other lense for the similar price and better qualitty? I guess not, but I rather ask before the investment

and now the best part! CHECK THIS OUT, guys! isn't that a BARGAIN?

and my other question is: is this lense good enough for taking pics of cars at the ring, I mean does it cover the distance for a decent shots? and the qualitty wise - is this lense okay for a moving objects?

cheers!!!

You guys have some serious equipment. I  have only the 400D with 18-55 kit lens. Hoping to buy some other lens before leaving Singapore, the kind that gets objects closer to me.

So serious... and mine so rubish - Nikon D70 but with lense bought during the XIXth century - that I'm seriously considering getting into the Canon madness before the Ring meet :P  not sure if a 400D would be a step back coming from a D70 though..... :?

Its a great lense and well worth the money, im sure if you get it youll be glad you spent the extra money because its one of those things that feels like it will last forever. I think it would be long enough for using at the ring as the run offs arent that big but i dont know how close to the track you can get, I use mine at Knockhill mostly and can get close enough and the focus is very quick. Pretty much all my motorsport shots are taken with it and i can upload some full res unsharpened copies if you want.

Excellent bang for the buck with this lens, I don't think there's better within that price range.

Those HK deals are indeed attractive, the only thing is that it could be stopped at customs, they add custom fees and taxes. Doesn't happen a lot though. Otherwise, as long as the guarantee is as described, it is indeed a bargain.

Never been to the ring yet but 200mm should be okay, you can always crop the picture a little bit. Quality isn't a problem with L lenses, it's also USM so autofocus is as good as it gets  :)

These are straight from the camera just converted from RAW. best to download and view at 100%. It really is a great lense for the money and light enough to easily carry around all day.

thanks guys, especially to alan!!! :good:
those pics made me ensured, that I'm not gonna make any mistake :)
I already have bought the Sigma 17-70 lense with this DCTrade company, the shipping went smooth, customs and fees were okay, so the experience is "I do recommend them everywhere" :)

I'm really not experienced enough to give advice, because I just got my first decent camera. I asked myself from many of my friends with more experience about Nikon and Canon and the answer was always the same. Pick the camera that suits your hand best. Canon usually has maybe a slighty more realistic colours in the pics than Nikon, but in the end it's just up to what you want.

I just compared the D70 and 400D in the dpreview.com side by side and I think they are quite similar judging by those numbers. Do you have any other lenses that you might use in a new Nikon?

Mihals, you got me interested about that lense too   Price 726€ from Finland. I have to look around if I can find a price in Singapore. If the lense is good enough for Alan and you, I'm sure it's more than good enough for me.

List price for the lens in Singapore is even more than in Finland, but I'm sure bargaining bring the price down. Since I'm not actually in any hurry with the lens, I can start slow bargaining

I finally paid a visit to Sim Lim Square to ask a price for that Canon EF 70-200mm F4L USM from one of the many stores. Got a quote 1050 SGD and that equals to about 500€. I have to say that 628 AUD is a real bargain.
I'm sure I can get it for less than 1000SGD in here with some work, but still 628AUD is about 380€.
Did you already get yours Mihals?
