Agreed. There are a few DIYers who are capable of doing an amazing job. But there are a lot of tinkerers who have done some crazy things. For instance on my car, one of the previous owner's mechanic screwed up the gearbox fill hole - Norwoods is fixing it.

More updates ...

Good news is that James has not identified anything major that is wrong.

There were some "shortcuts aka weird SHIT aka what were they thinking" items done by one the previous owner/ his mechanic that James has found and is in the process of fixing. One includes cutting a small part of the subframe - perhaps to facilitate in the car belt/gearbox change. I doubt you would find that out in a PPI though. The gearbox fill plug was also buggered up.

Thus this service is fixing most / all the bad stuff and setting a proper baseline for the future. That's why I am getting the service done at a proper shop with knowledgeable eyes and hands working on it.

There is a bit of hydrocarbon deposits around two cylinders. But other than it is in great shape. The belts and tensioner bearings were fine. The exhaust valves were a smidge tight while the intake valves was mostly within spec. the plugs were okay. Two of the plug wires might have to be replaced.

Naah not really

Cams and belts removed

Old belt and tensioner bearing

Re-painted camcovers and cleaned up pulleys, camshafts

Misc parts

Cleaned up underbody and engine bay and re-chamfered brake pads to cure squealing

Hill Engg tensioner bearings installed

Well done taking the car to a trusted, well-known specialist... that way you avoid stupid shit like the cut out subframe

I spoke with my service guy and we are getting the cut in the sub frame fixed. It will be done right.

Sadly it is gonna cost a bunch of change. So let's see how it goes.

The good news is that there were no other issues with the engine - that would get pricey in a heartbeat.

Not too much to update since the last post:
- My subframe will be fixed before the engine re-install
- Another guy's 355 challenge needs to be completed first - he has a race to attend this weekend.

The new belts are on and the camshafts are back on after valve adjustment

Wow, thanks for sharing these pics with us sameerrao, it's a treat to see a Ferrari engine with cam covers off and removed from the car. I hope the car is finished soon and back on the road in full form!

Pending tasks:

1. Investigate fuel sending unit - to fix the wobbly fuel gauge needle
2. Button up the rest of the engine
3. Re-install engine and subframe into the car
4. Run the motor and perform preliminary checks
5. Test drive the car to make sure it runs okay
6. Perform the alignment
7. Detail the car
8. Pick it up hopefully on Saturday or Monday latest.
