Gordon Murray's small T.25 city car caught

I'm really looking forward for this city car since I read about it some months ago on evo magazine. I wonder if they'll magane to sell the idea to a major carmaker... or if they're gonna sell it under their own brand, but I'm pretty sure it won't be just-another-useless-concept as Gordon Murray is well-respected and he always comes up with very cool projects.

I'm sorry, but I don't think even Gordon Murray can make that kind of wrapping look good from inside. Maybe these city cars are the way of the future, but they look stupid.

Can anyone explain me the difference between this and any of the dozens of Kei-cars that are sold in Japan? Apart from the famous guy who has designed it.

Yes, but still that thing is tiny and will look ugly. And because it is tiny and tall, you can't put real power in it or it will have epilepsy.

That's a good question. And I have no answer.

Yeah, but Joe the Plumber doesn't know who Gordon Murray is

And the McLaren F1 is a completely different thing. Here the picked the best F1 engineer, and they gave him complete freedom to design the best ever uncompromised supercar ever made. Here he is more... conditioned: the car has to be small, it has to be eco-friendly, low fuel consumption, low drag, narrow tyres, and (IMO very important) it has to be affordable, 'cause it has no sense to design a good eco-car if only a handful can enjoy it :)

And the japanese K-cars have been exactly this for over 10 years now... :)

The Smart ForTwo is the first euro K-car

If we don't count the micro-cars so popular in France and Spain :suspicious:

I'm very excited about this. Three seats, hmm.. something's telling me that it'll have a McLaren F1-style layout, with a central driving position

Yup, I'm also very interested in this project. At first when I first read that Gordon Murray was working on a citycar I thought WTF? but the more I hear about it... the more interesting it turns to be :)

This LINK was posted on Jalopnik like 3 weeks ago and it's quite interesting.
I'm still quite skeptic about this car, it doesn't quite convince me, even more with it's electric approach. The way I see it is as an updated smart taking on the advantage that the world is being crazy on emissions and pollution but not as an excellent solution. He's just building up the hype to market a product that has a low chance of being very succesful. I hope I'm wrong though.

That looks like the 2035 Smart ForTwo... a bit too futuristic IMO.

Told you so ;)

Quote
Gordon Murray’s new city car, the T25, will have more interior space than rivals such as the Smart Fortwo and the Toyota iQ, according to the car’s designer.

The three-seater, which uses a central driving position, places the driver at the front and in the middle of the car. The two passengers are set back on either side.

With just the driver aboard, it’s claimed the 2.4-metre long, 1.25-metre-wide T25 will offer 750 litres of luggage capacity; the unoccupied passenger space is capable of storage. Murray calls the central driving position iCentre, and it is crucial to the amount of space in the T25.

The rear-mounted 660cc engine and positioning of the battery and fuel tank under the floor also help to maximise interior dimensions.

To get around the potential access problem, the T25 has two doors: a hatch at the rear and a side-hinged door at the front of the car that allows entry to the passenger compartment in the style of the Isetta bubble car.

Murray said he will have a finished body prototype running within a month and is aiming to get the car into production within 24 months.

Murray’s company will not build the T25; instead, he will license the production process. He is working on getting the car built in the UK, and is in talks with several interested parties. Murray described the talks as “making good progress”.

Three places and 1,25 m wide, that can't be too confortable...
