My 2004 Mitsubishi Evo 8MR
« on: 31-Dec-2007, 10:20:53 »
Most of you know the car already so I won't go into too much detail about what has been done to it in the past - but its an imported (i.e. was never sold officially outside Japan) VIII MR meaning a little less weight and slightly more power than the Aussie version.

Mods so far (bold are things Ive done since last update)

Trust PE2 cat back
Tomei front/dump pipe
Bosch 044 fuel pump
Verso tune
306hp/430Nm atw (not engine)

18x9 +29 gunmetal Advan RS with 245/40/18 tyres
Do-luck carbon fibre front lip
Lowered on RSR springs

Maitland Performance half-cage - removed rear seats
Sabelt 4pt harness
Endless CC-X front pads, Ferodo DS2500 rear

Plans:

Tein Monoflex coilovers coming very soon, plus new set of RE55's semi slick tyres
Turbo upgrade - HKS3037 being number 1 option
Cosworth 2.2L build if things go to plan

I've done a fair bit of track work with it (see last 3 pics) and loving it, very hard to get something faster than a well modified Evo around a track unless you go and spend BIG money. Definately keeps the more expensive cars on their toes.

You removed the back seats!!! :good:

I remember when you were deciding about getting a new car, you liked the Elise but said it was a bit unpractical as a daily car... and now that you had a nice 4-door saloon, you've turned it into a 2-seater sports car!! since this is evolving more and more into a track car... do you have another car as a daily drive??

Anyway, I have to say that yours is one of the coolest Lancers I've seen so far, with those wheels and the rollcage it looks just so awesome now!! And the pics in the dark with the flames and the glowing brakes... WOHAA!!

Keep us updated with future mods dude!! ;)

Whoa. You've turned it into a real beast. With that rollcage in the back, it's like a rally car for the road. :P Not as practical anymore though. Was it a tough decision to make?

Just a monthly track night held at our main raceway (5km track, V8 Supercars race on it) - goes to about 11.30pm, great fun racing around under lights!

Hehehe kinda ironic hey! This is my daily drive although I only live 1km from work so its not like I drive it that much during the week. I have my brothers Rav 4 to use if need be but I find it very hard to drive a car like that (slow and an auto).

Did you import it by yourself?

No, the previous (first) owner imported it thankfully - saved me alot of hassles and risk.

Not really, I don't often take more than one passenger anyway so no big loss for me. Plus I plan to keep this car for a long time and turn it into a hardcore racecar and eventually get something else for the street (new GTR would be nice).

Brakes and flame shots are awesome....

Anything new broke on the car from any track days yet?

It's been a while since the last time you posted about your Evo.. Looks like you were really busy within that time frame!

Nice idea with the half cage, keeping it somewhat more practical. Must be a lot more tail happy with out those rear seats too.

I always liked Mitsubishi EVOs especially because of his racing philosophy very close to the rally like Audi in the 80' and the fact they are (turbocharged + AWD), but especially owing to the fact those Evos are not sold in Canada, they are thus mythical here. I very like your powerful red EVO 8 MR.  :good:

There's a similar red Evo IX at the dealers window here and it so tempts me. I tried to get a test drive in it last summer, but I didn't have the patience. I will not miss the next chance if there comes one. :)

I'd see the point in changing to a cf hood, especially as he has gone through some serious weight loss operations already.

However...I think it wouldn't look too good on it.
