U.S. Airways A320 Lands in Hudson River
« on: 16-Jan-2009, 00:46:46 »

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28678669/

This is pretty big news here in the USA, it's on every channel right now so I'm sure my fellow American Rebels are already aware of this. It's awesome everyone made it out okay. I always had the belief that, water or land, if the plane goes down you're fucked. Apparently the thing is still floating! On the news they're showing it drifting down the Hudson river

For the lazy: The incident happened shortly after takeoff. Apparently the Airbus lost both engines after hitting a flock of birds. According to witnesses the plane made a controlled landing into the river.

There's a slide show in that link I provided. I don't think anyone has it on video - or at least, a video hasn't surfaced yet.

wow good to know it has floating abilities... and lucky they had a controlled landing, otherwise the impact from the water would surely have broken the plane hull...

Glad to see everyone walk/swim out without problems :) I'm sure in some other countries and with some other companies / airplanes, the outcome would've been quite different...

It was all over the news here right after it went down, there was tv coverage of it just minutes after it went down...

Great that everyone got out... :good:

I know I know... but how do you say when an airplane "lands" in, let's say, Groenland, which is pretty much all covered on ice? Ice-land? ;) It's not technically "land", but it's not water either...

I need more coffee :morning:

well done by the pilots....water landings are usually more devastating than emergency landings on land. Incredible achievment to keep the plane in one piece.

Pilot was an ex-fighter jet flier. Apparently he took control knowing exactly how to safely land the jet in the water, going against what "ground control" was telling him to do. Amazing that everyone survived. The Pilot also made sure 3 times that no one was left on the plane. Well fucking done!
