When will it stop?
« on: 02-Jan-2008, 20:26:28 »
I hate my car and I want it to explode into a trillion pieces.

Not too long ago, on my way to work. It went all wonky. I'd step on the gas and it would shake like hell and barely move. But once the revs got high enough, it would go just fine. Ended up being a bad coil. Shit happens, I replace both coils and plugs. Since I have no idea when the last time the cap, rotor and wires had been replaced, I did that as well. IIRC, it cost me just under $400 for everything.  :bad:

Then, my front brakes started to squeal, I'm annoyed, but what can ya do, they wear out. Replaced for $300.

Then my check engine light came on, catalytic system below threshold.  :bad: :bad:  $375 to have a universal cat welded in. The stock replacement was $450 all on it's own. eff that noise

Today, my rear brakes are sticking. Brake shoes probably need replacing. It's really cool, when I'm on snow or ice and hit the brakes, they'll lock and unlock real quick, which makes the ABS go haywire. Lots of fun in the snow with our sub zero temps. Since drum brakes are the devil, I'm not touching them, I don't yet know what it'll cost to have it replaced, but I'm gonna guess around $250.  :bad:

Also today, check engine light came on again. Failed oxygen sensor. FUCK ME

Word to the wise, never buy a mid 90's automocar from GM. They are all 100%, certified, guaranteed, pieces of shit.

sometimes......I hate cars

It really sucks to repair the car continuously. I think it's time to you to change your car. Ofcourse it isn't as easy as that, but why waste your time and money on a car that breaks all the time?

Sad to hear about all the troubles. When it gets too expensive, it's usually best to get something else. :)

I feel your pain. I had several problems with my first car (Peugeot 106) and in the end I just had to get rid of it... it was the car or my sanity...

I am going to replace it, I had intended to once winter was over. But if this crap continues it'll be sooner than that. The only real problem with that is, I know what I want and I can't get myself to take the plunge because car payments are for jerks and lesbians.

For now I'll fix it, I don't have much choice. I need to get to work and whatnot.
I'm gonna kick a few dents in it for good measure.

The way car prices are now you can usually get a decent car really cheap...

Maybe you could get a loan for the least amount of money you need to get the car you want?

Yea, but you have to pay back the loan. So it would be car payments all over again.
Found an A4 in the paper, gonna check it out this weekend.

Usually, but it isn't much of a discount.

I know what you feel. I had an Alfa 147 Selespeed and it was rubish. I visited the deler like 15-20 times in 2 years for random mechanical failures... and once the warranty expired, I got rid of it and bought the mighty Meriveyron!

Checked out the A4 this morning, basically, it was a waste of time.

He was the only owner, bought it new in 99. He had a bunch of paperwork for all the work thats been done on the car. Seems he ran out of money or something at some point. The timing belt was changed at 90,000 miles, the car now has 177,000 on it. Which lead too:

Me: Knock $800 off the price and I'll take it
Guy: Why? There is nothing wrong with it.
Me: It needs a timing belt/water pump yadda yadda, thats about $1200
Guy: No
Me: Goodbye

Overall the car was in very good shape, owner doesn't smoke so it doesn't stink, no burn marks. Never been in an accident etc. Had it not been for the fact that it needs a timing belt, water pump and what not right away, I'd have bought it.

if the car really worth it try to speak with him again and have a conversations with him, ask all the different things about the car(without him thinking you are forcing him to anything) and about him(some general stuff). The more you talk with him the more he "get to know you" the more "soft" he becomes. Maybe then he will give you 500 off if not 800 amount.

Nah, even though the car is in good condition, I can find with a lot less miles for roughly the same amount of money. Plus, it was a sedan and I'd rather have an Avant.
