weird topic heading but...

been browsing german cars on mobile.de ....dreaming for Audi B5 RS4's...then checked with the norwegian customs dept... They want over 40.000euros in tax on a car that costs 20.000euros in Germany.....200% tax...F**K ME!!!! So.....no RS4 then. The tax was actually 77.000euros, but 33.000euros was deducted due to the car beeing from 2001.

so, where do I apply to become a german citizen and work in Norway on a permit?

It is the norwegian import tax on cars that's the big one here....you see...our government hates cars more than anyone in the world.
Norway is not a part of EU, and I will be fined the norwegian price of the car +25% pentalty tax on top of that. 85.000euros is a fine I just cant pay

holy shit... i knew that prices are incredibly high in the north but this is...... 200% taxes!!!!!! for a 8 year old car!!!!! unbelievable... so i guess the car will be affordable in ~15 years when no more spare parts are available...

guess the only way would be to drive it with foreign licence plates but that will be difficult... insurance, the owner is officially someone else and stuff like that... guess you don't have a company or adresse outside scandinavia?

I'm afraid it's not that easy to get a passport in a foreig country. I guess you need a job first, you just cannot say hey, I want to be german like that... especially if you're not a member of the EU to start with.

You could ask for political asylum declaring that your country wants to kill you because you're driving a powerful car.......

It's too bad you didn't ask this before Prop 8 passed. We could have had a gay marriage in California for an American passport. Cars are dirt cheap here compared to that 200% BS.

No B5 RS4 here, though... We do have B7's going for about $50k USD

I share your sadness to not be able to get an Audi B5 RS4.

1st: I need to find one in good condition.
2nd: I need to buy one in Euro with my $USD or $CAD dollars, our money worth nothing now.
3rd: I need to pay a huge amount for importing and paying all the Transport Canada registration shit.
4th: The cherry on top is, we have a stupid law here in Canada (We can't imported cars below 15 years
       age, cars built in USA are allowed).
