No fucking way. Have you seen those Tata indian cars? they look like crap and the build-quality is far from acceptable. Can't believe they're gonna buy Land Rover and Jag Anyway, a malaysian company (Proton) bought Lotus years ago and it hasn't been that bad for Lotus actually... one thing is clear - if they plan to move the production to India, they're fucked.
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."(Benjamin Franklin - 1706-1790)
Im not sure its good for the image of Jag and Land Rover to be owned by Tata tough...
Like said, Lotus is owned by Proton these days. Doesn't seem to have done anything to their image. Also, like being owned by Ford was anything to brag about. Unless they seriously fuck the company up, I don't see how it could have much of an effect.
^I'd imagine they have enough brains not to copy cars of companies they own. That said, I've seen a few Hyundais that resemble Mercs that are sold here and it doesn't make Mercedes a less "high" brand at all. If anything it's the contrary, must be good if people are copying it. In the end they are in totally different classes. You've got a lot of BMW and Mercedes copies in China, but I doubt that makes the premium brands seem less premium.
I don't think that is going to be the problem with Tata. More likely the quality is questionable if something.
Let's wait for the results of this. Maybe the R&D funds will be cut and you'll see technology of 2000 in a 2010 car, maybe not
Well production is most likely still gonna continue in the same places, so I doubt that quality will chance due to this.Isn't that happening already? I wouldn't say new Jags are exactly full of new and amazing technology. And when it the last time they released a new engine?
TATA is a much bigger and better company than what they appear to be in the press. They don't just produce $2500 cars.did you guys know that TATA are the ones in charge of the computer systems on Ferrari F1 cars? yep.they'll do a good job with these two loser brands.....and let's face it, both of these companies needed a swift kick in the ass....now they'll get it.revenge for british colonialism y'know
According to Automotive News, the deal is done. Today Ford signed a deal with India-based Tata Motors to sell its Jaguar and Land Rover brands for over $2 billion. Ford will supposedly announce the deal officially tomorrow (Wednesday), but sources close to the transaction say the receipt's already been printed, so to speak. While details are scarce, AN does mention that Ford will pump around $598 million into the pension funds for each brand as it sends them on their way. We're waiting to hear more details about how Ford will continue to supply engines and components for these vehicles, for how long and how much. Right now, however, mum's the word, as the Blue Oval has only said that, "our first responsibility is to communicate with our employees." Sorry if they heard it here first, but then again, they should be working now, not reading Autoblog. Right? Right.UPDATE: Just-auto puts the price tag at $2.65 billion, and reveals we should have official news from Ford before the NYSE opens tomorrow morning.[Source: Automotive News via Autoblog]
