Heidi - 1991 Porsche 944 S2
« on: 06-Jul-2009, 19:14:56 »

MR2 is gone.. ended up doubling what I paid for it ;) Now I'd like to introduce Heidi!

Picked her up on June 27th.. and I've already done about 1500 miles with her! Last Tuesday night I drove down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with my family which is about 660 each way. I actually just got back this morning at 4:30AM - drove the entire 660 miles myself all throughout the night.

The 3.0L inline-4 has the power of a inline 6, and I was still able to hit 30mpg, cruising around 80mph. I'm really surprised by the range of the car, with its big tank I can easily do 400 miles without filling up. This trip makes me want to take her cross country to California when/if I eventually move out there.

She was restored from the ground up throughout 2001-2004. New engine with 22,000 miles since I took ownership. Body had about 105,000 miles before the rebuild.. So I'm in pretty good shape as long as I stay on top of the regular maintenance.

I'm looking to put in a newer iPhone friendly stereo with mount and an extra set of wheels, but she's great fun now!

She's beautiful! The S2 looks so much better than the S1, I love the colour, great wheels (although I think some wheels look even better), looks in mint condition, and is that a 968 style rear spoiler? Absolutely wonderful car mate, I'd love to own one like it in a couple of years :)

Congrats mate!! That colour looks stunning! The 944 is actually ageing quite well now, wouldn't mind having one of those in my garage. With such a proper restauratio, you must be proud of Heidi! 22,000 mi for that engine is nothing! :good:

Nice eye Gucom, that is a 968 spoiler.. Also has a 968 analog clock inside, which I don't know how to set :\

She needs a good wash.. lots of bugs from driving down south.. Will take more photos this weekend.

I would love some ideas for the extra set of wheels.. I'm thinking either 16" or 17".. I'd love a set of BBS RS type weaves, but can't stand trying to keep those clean.

Hmm.. the other 944 S2 I looked at had these Cup wheels.. I'll have to hunt around for the right sizes.

Only 3 options are worthy IMO:
-the Cup 1 wheels as shown by Dani
-Cup 3 wheels:
-The original "disk" wheels (like TT had on his 944 if I remember correctly). There're 2 types:
  with round-ish holes:

or with more oval / rectangular holes (which looks better IMO), but I'm not sure if they were original on the 944, I know they were used on the 928 S4 (same era) for sure.

Cup 3 are the most modern, and also muscular without spoiling the car with cheesiness, Cup 1 wheels also look muscular, less modern but more contemporary with the 944, and the disk wheels are very classy imo :)

The BBS wheels are nice and have an oldschool look, but one thing I like about the 944, and especially the S2, is how clean and understated-sporty it looks and I think BBS RS wheels would spoil that...

Oh by the way, if you want the rear end to look as modern and sleek as the front end, I don't know if it's possible to put a 968 rear lights cluster (and possibly rear bumper) on the 944?

I like the rear end the way it is.. and looking at the 968 I don't think they can easily be swapped.

But.. looks like I'll have to take care of a few things.

After about 2500 miles, something in the clutch seemed to have popped. Supposedly the clutch only has 25,000 miles on it, and should not have gone. I am still hoping that is the case or else I may be looking at a bunch of other shit to replace.

Hope it's nothing too serious. I reccomend the Cup 3 wheels, my 944 in Forza carries those and it looks amazing.

Edit: On second thought they're slightly different.

Damn, somehow I missed this until now, I saw the pic in the POTW topic.

Nice ride! The color is wonderful, and the wheels really help to keep it from looking dated I think. It looks to be in excellent condition. Any new pics for us?  :good:

whops seems that I also missed that topic - I am glad that you finally got rid of hairdresser car (jada jada it may performed well but in the end it was still a hairdressers car ;) ) and replaced it with someone thats more of a real mans car :D.

Can we expect a video or some good interior shots becuase I never inspected one of these in detail.

Hope you have alot of fun with heidi (although the original heidi came from switzerland ;) )
