Yeah it's a real bummer, especially because the rest of the car is in such pristine condition, which is what I was after in the first place. I didn't want a car that needed a lot of work, but something that was good from the start, and that would stay nice from my loving care and maintenance :) It's easy enough to find a 'nice' clunker that needs a ton of work, but you'll be sorry in the end, because they soak up money like hell to get them right.

Oh well, we'll see what they say. I have a feeling that it won't be really necessary to do the distribution after only 68000km. Seems rather early for a chain no ?
That 900€ quote was only when the engine was already apart for the other work.

I've heard some of his customers that had their E30 M3's and E36 M3's done there and they sure are happy campers. Engines run like a dream, and the care and love the guys puts into his work seems exemplary. So I'm pretty excited

And so she's in for surgery.

Distribution was not necessary according to my tech, so now the anxious waiting for the phonecall to pick her up, begins

Hope everything turns out fine at a reasonable cost. The car is a beauty though. Still a nice buy!

Have you taken this issue up with the previous owner BTW?

I hope so too...

Previous owner was unaware of the problem, even had compression checked last year amongst other engine related things (I have the bill), so definitely a screwy mechanic.  :bad:

Thanks :)

Well, she made it home one day late. Runs beautifully now, quite a difference. Engine was cleaned and in and out, the sparkplug threads in the cylinderhead were all redone (all 6 of them) in a professional machineshop, valves were cleaned, adjusted and set, butterfly air inlet valves cleaned and adjusted, all fluids were changed (engine oil, diff oil, gearbox oil, coolant), some suspension work done and some other minor things.

Some expected last minute costs and replacements (delco etc) to address some erratic and random starting issues boosted the final bill to 2600€ / $3800, but definitely worth it

Will post some pictures tonight. But first work...

Wow that's wicked sexy.  Honestly I didn't even know there was such a thing as an E24 M6 M645 CSi / M6. Looks like I've been missing out. Then again, I don't really know '80s cars well

Sorry to hear about the problems with the prevoius mechanic. I'm betting the car will be a dream once you get all that engine stuff ironed out. Plus peace of mind is nice to have.

Finally a drive today, sun was shining!

She runs much nicer now, purrs like a kitten and sounds even better than before.

Taking it easy to allow all the new gaskets etc to settle.

But damn this is good  :good:

Such a sight to see her moving down the road, and hear and see her drive away. Compared to this car, so many other cars look like thirtheen in a dozen lifeless drab, when it's going down the road.

I'll post some more pictures as soon as I can...

Still have some lighted window switches and premium speaker pods to install too.

No thanks. I like the wheels the way they are.

However, will replace everything once the TRX tires that are on there, are worn out. The price you pay for two new TRX's buys you 4 new alloys and tires, so then I'll go for either some staggered BBS 17in or some 16/17in Alpina's :)
