Author Topic: It's official: new McLaren MP4-12C revealed (Read 2017 times)

After so many years of rumors and speculation... today McLaren has revealed the first images and specs of their new V8 mid-engine supercar!

A 3.8 litre V8, revving up to 8500rpm, lighter than a 458 Italia although a bit more pricey, 7-speed DSG-style 'box... and all developed in-house - not even Mercs was involved in the engine department!

Not bad, not bad... It'd be better if they chose another colour for the car, somehow I think the orange makes it look like it came from one of those wannabe supercar makers.

It's meant to be conservatively styled and timeless, but to be honest some parts already look a bit dated. Looks-wise, its rivals are better. Technology-wise however, it looks VERY promising indeed!

It also has a brake-steering system to kill understeer (taken from their 1997 F1 car, MP4-12).

By the way, am I the only one who thinks the front and the glasshouse look a tiny bit like the Lamborghini Canto?

Some other great news, for me, is that Ron Dennis has announced plans to race this car and the future other McLaren models, in different GT competitions!

I also think it looks a bit bland and too conservative... even more now with the striking 458 Italia and the LP560-4 in the field. The original F1 turned the supercar scene upside down - this MP4-12C (worst name ever?!) on the other hand is just another one...

Dissapointing.

Anyway, I'd love to see it racing again.......

Bah!!! What a disappointment !!

It looks boring, in some way, and some parts ugly. Bad choice for the wheels! It looks kinda cheap, also!

An R8 next to this would look like a 10x more futuristic and expensive car.

I hope I change my mind when I see it in another color and street pics.

At least, I hope this will be a good sports car

Must say that I am also a bit disappointed by the style. Performances are OK but I was expecting something a bit more "on the edge" about design...

I find the front nice but the rear is not as good, I find the black stripes too high.

Boring. Looks nothing more than an updated version of the F1, nothing exciting or radical. I bet Gordon Murray patented the 1+2 seating and that's why they're not using it. Performance seems promising.

If I remember, He said he has no Ferraris because when he started to buy cars, he went to a dealeship and they were arrogant and did not wanted to sell him a car cause they thought they had no money or something like that

thanks for the pics dani, i'm also a bit disappointed, it looks like a Tesla or Lotus Evora, but we have to see it in reality or driven by the Stig.
The new Merc SLS is better looking and not so boring.

ok - i'll go car-suicide now: a standard F1 without wing and anything isnt' that more exciting then the new MP4-12C! for sure the color they've choosen for those pics above is .... guess any color would be better then this.
but i like the result and how it looks. will see how the car will perform on the track/street pretty soon with these interesting performance figures.

Too much Gallardo/Evora/F430 in it. Not bad though, just not as exciting as the F1.
