Singer Porsche 911
« on: 29-Sep-2009, 17:21:35 »
Not really a classic in the strict sense of the word but...

http://www.singervehicledesign.com/

Based on any long-wheelbase 911 built between 1969 and 1985, this Singer 911 weights 1088 kilos, has a 6-cylinder air-cooled 425hp engine under the hood, cabron fibre body, 3.9 to get to 100, 275 km/h top-speed... what else do you need?! This is the ultimate 911!

Quote
Incontestable is its vintage Porsche 911 look. However, the Singer 911 is far from antiquated. The complete reincarnation includes chassis stiffening, new active aerodynamics, and a lightweight integral backbone structure and roll cage to improve torsional rigidity. Most interestingly, nearly all of the steel body panels are replaced by full carbon fiber composite bodywork candy-coated in Singer's exclusive "Racing Orange" paint.

Under the rear decklid is an air-cooled 3.82-liter flat-six sporting six individual throttle bodies. With a GT3 crankshaft and titanium connecting rods, the powerplant spins eagerly to 8,000 RPM. The engine sends 425 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque to a proper Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission. According to the engineering team, the 2,400-pound Singer 911 will sprint to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is in excess of 170 MPH.

Ultimate mix of old and new and that engine is fantastic. The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is the size of the wheels. One size smaller would look better on an older 911 body like this. Other than that it's an absolute dreamcar!

The wheel design itself is great, but the size is way too big for an old 911 body... that's the point.
Looks a bit like one of those Big-Foot monster trucks

The size of the wheels on Chris Harris' 911 would look better on the Singer imo.

Other than that, this Singer is the perfect 911!

AWESOME !!!  :good: :good:

I like so much the fact they use the beautiful and classic shape of the 911 from the 70' era.

Thanks Dani for this new discover.  ;)

100 times better than the 911 Sport Classic. New set of wheels and you're good to go!

Niiiiiiiice, I agree, the only slight problem is the wheels which could be a touch smaller, but I'm flexible I'll take the car without different wheels.

never heard of them before... but i like the idea to mix old and new parts. if your not keen on matching numbers and only have original parts it could be a real improvement of your vintage racer.

i know the guy who started singer.....well sort of....he was in a band called Catherine Wheel....and we started talking over e-mail several months ago....about music, and cars......he's on my facebook...LOL ;)

he's well into Porsches, and always has been.  Catherine Wheel recorded a really great single called "Black Metallic" in the early 90s......i asked him if it was about a Porsche....and he said "YES"...
