Aston Martin One-77 breaks 220mph
« on: 23-Dec-2009, 14:45:12 »

Ok, with the Bugatti Veyron hitting 252mph... 220mph might not sound as impossing as they used to, but it's still a remarkable figure. Thing is, this new One-77 Aston is getting better and better... and I was one of the first that said this was an overpriced re-bodied DBS!!!  Completely hand-made, even the aluminium body, and with a tweaked version of the DBS engine, this car seems to be worth the 1M€ pricetag  they're asking for it! :)

Quote
Move over Jaguar XJ220. At 217 mph, your top end is just too slow. Hell, move over Batmobile. Why? The Aston Martin One-77, Britain's most expensive car ever, is now nearly its fastest. If not for the pesky, eternal problem of the McLaren F1 and its 241 mph top end, the One-77 would be the fastest production car in the history of Old Blighty. As it stands, or in this case flies, a One-77 has just crested 220 mph.

Can the latest and no question greatest from Aston Martin go even faster? Probably, as AM was quick to point out, that the 220 mph velocity was achieved in "dry, but windy conditions." Never forget the amount of power this 7.3-liter V12 beastie makes – between 700 and 740 horsepower, and around 553 lb-ft of torque. For the sake of national pride, the McLaren F1 produced "just" 627 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. Obviously, the 2,514 pound F1 is much lighter than the 3,308 pound One-77, however, which actually makes 220 mph run all the more impressive.

0-60 mph? Quarter mile? Lateral acceleration? We don't know yet, but we do know that Aston Martin will keep us up to date as soon as all that information gets logged. For its part, the matte gray beauty you see above is at a "top secret proving ground in southern Europe" where its being flogged about in anticipation of the One-77's mid-2010 release. If not for the £1.25 million price tag (just shy of $2M Yankee bucks), we'd be losing sleep.

I read today that apparently some reaaaally rich dude in the Middle East somewhere has bought ten of these for $23 million. AM didn't want to sell that many to one person, but since he was paying a $900,000 premium for each one they said OK, just this once.

Why the hell would you need 10 cars just like this?!?! :nutz: I mean... ok, you can buy 10 GT3 RS to have fun with your friends on a track... but you don't necessarely need to get the high-end Aston for that, you could've bought something like a DBS or a V8 Vantage N24...

well, each car is supposed to be custom-built for its owner right? With the possibility of making a 2+2 out of it, and some other stuff? Maybe he just couldn't decide which spec to order, and just decided to order them all?

bit greedy tho, I'm sure there're other people in the world willing to buy one of the 77...  :bad:

I reckon it looks hot too.. not sure about the cutout on the front spoiler area though...

Im glad it gets to 220mph though... Astons always had reviews where they always sounded better than they actually went...

Lot of cars can do 200mph now and for under $250,000 so for a million bucks, I'd want something that could out run a car at 25% the cost, even if it is exlclusive..
