wtf :? that was a grate? looked like a crack in the asphalt on the vid, all of it looks very strange why that happend :nutz:

the main thing you are ok, be glad you didnt hit with the drivers door or the front of the car that would be much more dangerous

:-o holy fuck sucks to read and to watch this.

If I remember there was some informative stuff about potholes on fifth gear - if you want to I can provide you the episode. All I remember now that you should take some evidents (taking pix of the crack with some measurements ....).

What is all damaged on the car? Doesnt look too bad: replacing bumper + maybe rims. Did you hit sth except for the curb?

It looks like I lifted off dont it. But i did'nt.  :?
yeah it did ..
well .. judging by the conditions of the road ... if you werent very precise on the throttle this would happen ... a little more power would've spun the wheels and make you go round .. and lifting off would be like a handbrake

... edit: .. i just saw the video .. you did lift off initially .. the brake lights come on ..
anywho .. cant the car be fixed ?

I'm so sorry you had an accident with your car so soon. I'm glad you're OK, though. Pretty scary stuff...

Get it fixed and enjoy it in better conditions. I've read so much good things about the MR2 and I've been wondering what it's like to drive every time I see one. Too bad so many people only judge it by its looks and reckon it's a hairdresser's car. Same as with the MX5. Both seem to be thoroughly good driver's cars that don't get the credit for it.

Thanks everyone for your concern it much appreciated. :D

Let me be more precise with what was happening from inside the car. The camera does'nt pick up what seemed to be happen at first which was the backend had abit of a "jolt" then unpredictable lost traction which made the car quickly face the right hand side of the road. Now the front end had no load, and no grip at all, so counter steer was'nt working like you would expect, so the backend had its own way more than I had mine. Through impulse I braked which gave the front only just enough grip not to go off the right side of the road, and for a momment I thought I had it untill the loose backend came around from my right side. Again I gave opposite lock but the front tires grip was too little for the mommentum of the rear. So again everything was in slow motion and the split second thought was to try stop the car on the road. But I ran out of road  As you can see from the video. So the car actually did about 720 degree spin. What you dont see in the video is I took down a double posted sign, which is actually under the car in the video. Although this stopped me violently, in actual fact it was a nice cusion, other wise if that sign was'nt there then I would have collided into the wall.
At least at this point I was travelling backwards so could'nt see what was approaching :good: All in all for a crash it was a good crash. I could have been more hurt than just a stiff neck. I dont think I managed too bad considering I was initially going to plow of the right side of the road, the skidding and some of the "control" in the loss of control did take off some of the energy away at least.

As for the car

Keeping in mind all the damage was don at the rear since I went arse first into a double posted sign, the raer is in abit of a state. The chassis is abit bent and the bumper and bodywork is not good. Its currently at the bodyshop and repairs but the guy who took it says it probably is a write-off soo I'll probably not be getting it back :bad:

Its abit sad, I wish I had of respected the car abit more and not took it on such roads, but saying that, its still ashock how easy it came out. So all I can say is I was'nt good enough for it. But with that said, with my only few days with it in the dry. It is a true drivers car, anyone who says its a hairdressers car obviouisly knows nothing of which he speaks.

Like we were all saying before... Its nice to know at least you can analyse it all with the video and stuff from home and not from a hospital or something bad...

That looks like it hit the pole pretty good...

When do you find out about the insurance etc from the council or car insurance?

That is the one thing about mr2s, they do swap ends easier.
IF you want something that is similair, but a bit more progressive and easier to handle,

get a miata!

Paul GT - hey I would'nt mind a MX-5 at all, I think they might be alittle more suited to my style actually. Thanks again to all that is concerned, but its not as bad as it seems. Everything was insured and i also had gap insurance so theres no loss on my behalf. Only abit of my pride hehe

I'm already at work on which car I should get next. I've decided that instead of trying to go cheap im going to speand alittle more and get a car I really want. I've narrowed it down to 3:

Honda civic type-r, the new uk one
Ford focus ST
Renault megane R26 F1 team

All cost about the same and insurance is similar too. I know I love the vtec engine. Its brilliant. I also love the new FN2 model, and im not convinced by Clarksons negative review, its an amazing car which it awesome to just sit in let alone own and drive.

The ST has a brilliant ride, a magnificent engine and id love to have a orange one :D Also I know I love the ST brand since im a ex Fiesta ST owner.

But the R26 is the king and willl whoop both cars by seconds on any track, but I dont have an experience with Renault and it could be too hard on our roads and has the most boring interior I know of.

The S2000 and such cars like the STI are just too much to insure. So I'm currently working hard while I decide.

Lucky for you the insurance will cover it!
And euhm, keep some extra money on the side to buy a proper set of tires for the right season... Winter tires aren't only for the snow, they stay flexible under cold temperatures where summer tires get hard.
I also was a non believer on the fact of those tires, but now that I got them I know everybody was right about them. They do make a big difference, and it's not that we have that much snow in Belgium either...

Spanky - Yeah thats the one. ALways loved the ST/XR5. Im not really a tuner but I know a simple ecu flash gives big big gains.

Tharmar - To be honnest, I think I'll have to try winter tires. They was Pirelli P7000 tires I had on and obviously the was usless.

Wackary - Ive been thinking long and hard. I know the renault is the fastest but I just cant seem to get excited like I do with the other two.

Yes you have to try and get some of those Daggernite, I am pretty sure you would have caught it if you had winter tires on in that situation....

Too bad to hear about the crash, especially when you got it not so long ago. Luckily the insurance will cover it, so it's not a total loss for you... well, except for your pride

At least you got it on camera (which is a rare thing) and you could go against the council for that pot hole, see if you can get some money for that :)

As for your replacer car... I tried the Megane R26 at the Nürburgring... and my advise is to stay away from it. Sure it's a fantastic car to drive and very very very quick with the LSD, but the gearbox ruined the experience IMO. The Focus ST is not bad, but I've heard some bad comments about it's reliability, even saw one blowing up it's engine in a track day at Barcelona. I'd stay with the Civic

Ill keep all that in mind. Must say its either the st or civic since these are my favourites.

How is it all going now? Has the council replied yet?

If its down to the ST and Civic.... You'll be choosing between turbo torque or crazy high revving engine...

Which do you prefer is the question haha....

Isnt there a new focus coming out? if so you'll either get an awesome price on a run out model or wait for a new ST model

Hey. Thanks for your concern. Sorry I took long to reply. I have'nt contacted the concil yet, although I did talk to a solicitor whom suggested I was 6 months and then if the suckened grate is still there I have a much better case to go on. The reason for this is that each road is suppose to be inspected for potholes and such to ensure safe conditons for its drivers. In actual fact this does'nt happen, and usually if the council hears or knows of your accident they will lie and or say the pothole was formed since there last imspection, and then go repair the road. If I wait 6 months and the grate is still there I can present a case which the council cant weisel out of.

On the car side of things I have a test drive this month of the Focus, and depending how it goes thats what I will base my decision on. Although Im pretty much sold on the honda :)
