Pilot was an ex-fighter jet flier. Apparently he took control knowing exactly how to safely land the jet in the water, going against what "ground control" was telling him to do. Amazing that everyone survived. The Pilot also made sure 3 times that no one was left on the plane. Well fucking done!

According to a newspaper article I read he is also a glider pilot.  :good:

I think it's the combo of all his experience: ex F4 Phantom pilot + expert consultant in air flight security mesures + and like you mentioned he was a glider pilot...this last thing can really really helps in this forced landing on water. Two tumbs up for the pilot and the co-pilot.  :good: :good:

I heard today at the office, that the plane is a total loss of ~$40M.

Those people are LUCKY they had him for a pilot. Anyone greener would be listening to that ATC worker and this dude was just like "No, we're going in the Hudson."

Incredible. Thanks for posting that Dani.

Pretty cool time-lapse vid of the airplane when it's "rescued" from the Hudson River:

best comment ever

I'd expect to see this on Craig's List in about two years:

For Sale of Trade

Low Miles Airbus

Ran well until it was last landed, been in storage since

Exceptional history

Perfect for full restoration, partially disassembled for better access

Slight water damage and minor engine issues

Wife says it has to go

Will consider trades for other airliners, air craft carriers or space shuttle
Point it. Punch it.
