Best photo sharing service
« on: 05-Jul-2011, 00:27:12 »
I've been using Googles Picasa service for a while to share images. As I've been taking more photos lately, my 1GB limit for a free account is quickly running out. I'm now interested in paying for a better account and so have been looking at a few alternatives.

I need a place to store both any good photography I make, as well as random pictures from parties, outings etc. to share with friends (as well as back up), so I'd have everything in one place.

Being this place has a lot of good photographers I imagine quite a few of you might have experience to share on this.

I've been mostly looking at flickr, which has pretty good pricing for an unlimited account. Seems like my photos will also be stored in their original size with a pro account. There's also a pretty cool community, which doesn't really exist in Picasa. That said, though it seems like a great place to store the more artsy stuff I'd like to show and get opinions on, has anyone has any experience using it as just a place to "dump" any pictures of events with friends and how good it is for sharing that stuff.

Photobucket also popped up in several reviews, but I don't have any personal experience.

As far as staying on Picasa goes, Google has great desktop programs to manage and upload images for Picasa, which is a plus. That said the lack of community is a real bummer. Also the pricing seems to be based on space you want to buy, rather then having an unlimited option like Flickr, which could be a problem when photos start stacking up, especially large sets from parties and so on.

So, anyone want to weigh in on this?

I've been using Flickr for a while now (Pro account), and I couldn't be happier. Anyway, I'm not really involved in the "community" part of Flickr, to be honest, so I don't know what to say about that. I only use it to store pics and share them with people. :snap:

I use Photobucket only to upload photos to TAU and other forums and blogs.

Great, I was leaning towards Flickr anyway, guess it's time to pony up for the Pro account.

Anyone have any experience with iPhoto Flickr integration though? I heard they've improved it a bit in iPhoto '11, but wonder if it's worth the upgrade.
