My rally BMW E30 325i (Update: SOLD!)
« on: 17-Jan-2008, 13:31:56 »
Hello! As you know, I'm Dani's brother and I'm preparing a 325i to compete in rallys this season. It's a E30 325i, and it was more difficult than I thought to find a nice one, but even if it looked perfect, as soon as I started removing the interior I noticed 2 huge rust holes under the driver seat, and I had to be careful because it's where the rollcage it's welded.

Anyway, here're some pics the first day I took the car, with my brother and some friends...

And a couple of videos of that day:

Oooops!!

Another vid:

And some pics of the car that I took yesterday. I'm starting to install the rollcage on my own, which is pretty difficult. Hopefully I'll have the car finished around March or so because I really want to do rallyes now!! :)

Nice! I was wondering what the progress was on your E30 Rally build.

What engine upgrades are you planning?

RWD rally cars are always very impressive to watch. Very cool project.

What kinda rally league are you gonna be racing in? The national championship or...?

What an ugly car..........

Answering the questions, he's gonna take part in the catalan rally championship... and no, there're no engine mods planned so far

^What's the leve of drivers there? Pro, semi-pro, amateur?  And what classes, do WRC or group-n cars also take part in that championship?

Semi-pro the top drivers, but quite amateur-ish the rest... you can find from a Seat Cordoba WRC, a Clio S1600, a couple of Ibiza Kit-Cars, gr.N Lancer and Evos... and the rest - 206 XS, 205 Rally, some GT Turbos... you know nothing really interesting, apart from the E30s

Here's a vid so you can see the cars that usually take part in these events...

At 0:41, that Seat Cordoba WRC is driven by the 500cc ex-world champion Alex Criville BTW, and others like Xevi Pons or Dani Sola also started in this championship.

Great pick for a rally car, it should be a lot of fun with RWD. :D Too bad about the rust, but I guess that can be patched without too much trouble?

In the Netherlands we have got a 325i rally cup. They have got about 20 cars and a spectacular sidewards driving style is rewarded as well. It is a lot of fun to watch and I guess it is a lot of fun to drive as well. This is the dutch site: http://www.325ichallenge.nl/ which contains a lot of pics and vids of sideward 325i rally Beemers.

Maybe something nice to have, a copy of the FISA homologation papers:
gr.N:

gr.A:
http://www.325ichallenge.nl/html/bulletins/Homologatieformulier%205292%20grp%20A.pdf

Good luck and I look forward to see the progress of the car.

Oh man, I know my brother was looking for those homologation book like crazy. He's afraid he has removed some stuff that is mandatory in the gr. N class... like the fan or the aircon or using a LSD or removing all the interior trim... so we'll have to compete in gr. A, where cars are a little bit faster :?

*edit*

FUCK!! this is just what he was looking for!!!!! Thanks a lot redbaron!! :good:

Nice pics and videos! :good:
Thanks! :good: :D

Are they tarmac rallyes or is there some gravel involved? I'm sure the 325i offers plenty of joy as a stripped rally car.
Will the car get a new color when it's ready? That grey is ok, but not really rallyish :)

The car will be white, with silver interior. And the FINA stripes as well... because my brother just loves that FINA E30 M3

And no, no gravel involved, just tarmac.

congrats on the new rally project gigi :D
Will it be street legal after you have modified it, or is it only for rallying?

Rallycars are street legal... they have to drive on open roads from stage to stage

I don't think cars with rollcages are allowed on the road here. You can apply to the DMV, but I think they very rarely give licenses.

edit: read the rules now... you need a factory or TÜV approved rollcage..
