better get a damn good launch off of turn 30 because unless you're running the most powerful engine on the grid, you aren't going to retain your position by the time you get to turn 1.

can't wait for this race 8)

If your mechanic doesn't have a story about crossing plug wires, he either hasn't been a mechanic for very long, or lies out his ass

^ yeah it just made the concept of a US Grand Prix a whole lot more exciting! :D

and indeed, from just before turn 20 (not 30 :P but even a 20-turn circuit is a great change from recent tracks), where the lowest point is, to turn 1 at the highest point, is an elevation change of 133ft / 40 meters... not bad at all! :) I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more racing series becoming regulars at this track!

i was going by the jalopnik article which counted 30 turns over the 3.4 miles. They also remarked that it looked like a giant bong...

at 200mil USD, they had better run more races there than just F1.

Tilke track = me not excited

Sorry, but it's just the experience that tells me so: Bahrain, Valencia, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai... Every new track designed by the german, turns into a boring track after the first 2 laps in Formula 1. I would've taken the F1 circus to Long Beach or Laguna Seca (or Manhattan!!) rather than creating a whole new facility. Dani is not excited.

^well, that was my first reaction too, when I heard Tilke would design the track. However, the layout seems much more exciting than anything he's ever done before. Also, in a recent Autosport article, he said both he and bernie want to see a change to more exciting tracks:

Quote
F1 track designer Hermann Tilke has revealed to AUTOSPORT that Bernie Ecclestone has given him the green light to be more adventurous."I have discussed a lot of things, and a lot of good ideas come from Bernie Ecclestone," said Tilke, whose designs for the new Austin track in the United States were revealed last week."He has a good view on it. Now, we are going much more to the edge than we have some years before - in terms of elevation and the types of corner we have."

So I'm hopeful we'll see a change for the better. Also, regarding Manhattan: city street circuits are rarely, if ever, more exciting than Monaco. Manhattan would provide a nice background, but in terms of action it'd most probably be disappointing...

Laguna seca is nice though :) but like I said, this new track also looks very exciting to me, so I'm hopeful it'll be a worthy addition to the F1 calendar.

Yep, same I said earlier. The new (Tilke) tracks are no match for the classic tracks!

Ive never really followed it but was the old Detroit Grandprix ever interesting as a track?
