Roof boxes for Toyota
« on: 30-Jun-2010, 12:29:21 »
If you didn't know, my wife and I are expecting a baby girl in September.
I have a Lancia Delta and a Toyota Corolla, and I don't have budget to buy another bigger car.

Solution? :?
Buy a box for luggage!

Now, where guards this device? The other day I was at the store construction and I saw an invention ... I bought it and today I will install it.
It's a system of ropes that raise the device to the ceiling, and so doesn't bother, and facilitating installation in the car.

I already take some pictures and I will show you how it looks!

The bars for luggage are of the Toyota, and a roof boxes, as I have read is pretty good, brand Montblanc (Sweden).http://www.montblanc.se

I will tell you if roof boxes is good...when I will use it.

Tomorrow I will show some... :snap: !!!

yeah, those are nothing new. been over here for decades. You tend to see them more on minivans, station wagons and suvs; the types of vehicle where you shouldn't need extra storage space

Be careful though if you have a sunroof. There is a little bit of a debate as to whether or not they create a strong enough vortex between them and the sunroof glass to cause the glass to shatter.
Point it. Punch it.

wow thats a huuuge box. Note that most car roofs legally only can care around 70kg or so depending
on the car.

Biggest manufacturer in germany is Thule - but quality also comes with a high price. I would also add a clear
foil on the roof to avoid scratches when you are trying to get the baby carrier in your box ;).

Yes roof boxes are comon here in Norway also, we call the ski boxes as thats what we use them for most of the time.

@Phobo I dont belive that most car roofs are only allowed to carry more than 70 kg`s, I used to have a Thule roof rack for my car and each one of the single "racks" was allowed to carry 70 kg`s so you sure you are not confusing the load index of the racks with how much the car are allowed to carry on the roof?

I just have never heard that the car are not allowed to carry more than 70 kg`s on the roof as long as it is properly fastened to the roof rack, most Thule roof racks allow at least 100 kg`s also.

 :good:
Thanks guys for your opinions.

The instructions manual of my box doesn't recommend load over 75Kg, and don't speed more than 130 km/h....

The transport system baggage of Toyota recommends a maximum weight of 70kg per bar,and without speed limits.

:) I guess 'common sense' limits these standards.
