While the 300-hp 135i has switched from the twin-turbo N54 to the single-turbo N55 engine, the 1-series M Coupe—like other BMWs recently unveiled with high-powered inline-sixes—gets a more powerful version of the N54, upgraded to about 335 hp. It’s mated to a slick six-speed manual gearbox—no automatic or dual-clutch transmission will be offered.
i'm a huge fan of the 135i Coupe.....probably the ONLY BMW i would ever want at this time! I've driven it twice, and i really dig it.......i'm really looking forward to testing out the 1M.....it's gonna be great.....but holy crap $45k (probably $50k loaded) is putting it into WAY too high of a price category........i guess it'll be cool as a low volume type of affair......
Yup, the first 1-Series we got here was the 5-door... some years later came the 3-door, and later on, the 1-Series Coupe. I don't think they'll offer the 1M as a 5-door model. In fact, if I'm not wrong, not even the 3.0 twin-turbo 305hp engine made it to the 5-door
David Aviles, who works at Northwest BMW in Maryland, won a sales competition and so was invited to a European BMW event called The Power of M. While there, he apparently gleaned some info on the 1 Series M Coupé that, if true, is not going to make very many people happy. According to Aviles, there will be just 2,700 examples sold in either Alpine White, Jet Black or Valencia Orange Metallic, and every single one will come with a manual transmission. BMW's been on a bit of a roll lately with special and limited edition M cars, but if Aviles' news is accurate, we didn't expect the production on this one to be choked off at such a low number. Aviles goes on to say that the U.S. will get the largest allocation, but numbers weren't disclosed. The pic above is a wallpaper rendering of the 1 Series M Coupé by Bimmerpost member Gerald, which might be the closest any of us gets to the car itself.
Where are the official pics ?! So much time to show just a (not so important) sportier version. Aren't they gonna show it at Paris Motorshow ?
Only 2700 units. Driver focussed. Three colours avaiable. Manual transmision only!! It's like BMW wanted something to compensate for the useless X5M and X6M Link: Autoblog
Between the 6 Series Coupe concept, the 5 Series Touring wagon and the new X3 crossover, BMW had plenty to show us this year at the Paris Motor Show. But the real surprise, as it turns out, may have been in the French capital during the show, it wasn't even put on display. Instead, the Bavarian automaker took its currently-in-progress 1M Coupe out onto the city's famous tree-lined boulevards, covered up and disguised, but did a suitably Parisian burlesque striptease to give us a glimpse at what to expect.Aside from the silhouette, all we can see are the front fender, headlamp (which is now taped-up in Zorro-esque fashion for some reason) and part of the air dam – all of which we saw before in the last teaser video – along with a newly-revealed section of the rear bumper and quad-pipe exhaust, plus the wheels protruding from the flared arches. If previous reports prove accurate, there will only be 2,700 examples on offer, so this may be the best look we'll get for some time... better check it out in the gallery below.
