My BMW E30 320is (aka Sabine)
« on: 12-Jul-2010, 15:56:54 »
Hello,

I sold my 325i, because I didn't have time to work on it, and all the money was spend on the M3. So... I decided to buy a "finished" rally-car... and this is my "new" 320is.

I'm happy! Si!! Claaaro!! :)

Some more photos:

To be honest, we don't know is that is a real 320is (E30 body, S14 2.0 litre engine) or a 318is with a real M3 2.3 litre engine (the original papers say it's a 318is so...) :? Mechanically it's in pretty decent shape. But the details (especially at the interior) are quite shameful. Before entering the first rally, my brother plans to rebuild the interior with original parts mixed with carbon fibre. The owner who sold the 325i to my brother, 2-3 years ago, sold it because he bought this very same 320is. My brother drive it back then, and when he found out it was for sale, he didn't hesitate. It has 200hp... and it's an F2000-class car, which means you can modify pretty much anything you want. The 325i would have had to run in the N-class... with much less oportunities to improve the car.

I guess we will have to wait until autum to see the car in action, once everything is perfect. I'll keep you posted anyway... :)

BTW, photos taken by me and llastarri  :snap:

From what I see with all this ugly plumbing & wiring I think this never was an original 320is aka "The poor man m3" .
But just gimme the chassis number (or the number on the motor block) and I can provide you all the necessary infos + If you give me 2 days time also some infos with what kind of extras, trim etc. it came out of the factory.

btw: are you interested in some carbon fibre door panels? :)

it is beyond words how I envy you Gigi

here is how you brakdown the engine code and see what engine that is http://tinyurl.com/32rwed7 it might have been 318is before, you can put m3 engine in any e30

why put interior in? shouldnt it be just like that for a rally car?

Awesome!  :good:

Rallying with an E30...that's like a dream come true! Conserning the video, can we get one with less music and more engine noise?

shiny pavement, e30, counter steer, smile.

A proper E30 in the rain is one of the most fun things you can experience in life :)

Very nice car lads!

Should be a real headturner by the time its finished Gigi! I like the BMW warstripes on it!  :good:

Does it have an extended handbrake lever? Ive been in a e36 M3 driftcar and that did have one, together with a little switch with which he could lock the rear wheels for a couple of seconds to flip it sideways. Or is that no good in rallying?

It has a longer handbrake lever, which you can't leave it engaged BTW. But no, it's not as long as in some WRC cars. Obviously, it can help you around tight corners so yes, it's good for rallying. The only thing you must remember is that whenever you pull the lever, you need to press the clutch pedal as well, but that's about it. :)

And another way to drift around the corners (in ver tight turns) is to downshift down to first without releasing the clutch pedal, and then do it in the very last moment. Doing it, you block the rear wheels quite easily, which is pretty much the same effect you would get with the handbrake.

This is how the car is gonna look next season once it's resprayed and vynil-ized :)

Inspiration comes from the BMW E30 M3 '92 FINA-Bastos that took part in the 24 hours of Spa, one of the coolest Me liveries IMO
