The Not-So-Ultimate-But-More-Like-Average-Garage
« on: 30-Dec-2011, 08:17:01 »
I drool over those ultimate garages.  And while I don't have all that kind of money, I did have some spare tile left over from the kitchen remodel...so I am making my own not-so-ultimate-but-more-like-average-garage.

I've got plenty of lighting from wanting to make sure I have enough light to work on my cars in the garage when I need.  I have 6 double florescent tube light fixtures that come on with the garage door opener that I rigged up with relays and one fixture that comes on with a switch, for when I don't need a lot of light (like checking the garage door is shut before going to sleep).  The floor is epoxied with one of those home kits and it kind of sucks, but it was a learning experience that I'll do better next time.  More recently, I did the tile on the wall:

The tile on the wall was actually prompted by that sink you see in the corner.  It used to just have sheetrock around it and it was all water damaged over the years of use.  The prior owner wasn't very careful with water spray...so I decided I would replace the sheetrock and tile around the sink to protect the wall from water...and figured, with all the extra tile, I'd go down the wall too.

So, this past weekend, I taped the seams and started texturing the wall.  I'll finish with just some primer and white paint.  It'll look decent when I done though:

I'll put up finished pics when done.  But my other plans for the not-so-ultimate-but-more-like-average-garage is climate control.  Heating and cooling will be controlled by whatever climate is outside.

UPDATE 1/14/12

I finished that wall:

Next I have to sand the whole thing and paint it.

Do you guys have sample images of the motorsport stripes that you said looked pretty good?  Is it all the way down the wall?  Maybe with a break part way down for the "M"?  That might look cool!

budget tip for making your average garage into a bmw enthusiast garage: continue to paint the wall white and then put the bmw motorsport strips on the side. :)

I am planning to do this in the summer time - have seen this before and looks quite nice.

i'm guessing that you've already insulated the garage before drywalling it?

any plans to epoxy seal the floor?
Point it. Punch it.

If your mechanic doesn't have a story about crossing plug wires, he either hasn't been a mechanic for very long, or lies out his ass

M3 in the garage?  Sure:

In keeping in line with the no so ultimateness of the garage and the fact that it will be climate controlled by outside climate anyway, I didn't bother to insulate the walls.  The ceiling is not done and I honestly don't want to really spend that much money on it.

I'm not going to bother to re-epoxy the floor.  I'd have to diamond grind it all and there's just too much stuff for me to move out of the way to make me motivated to do it.  Next house, I'll do a better job...as it is now...it'll do in this one.  Not so ultimate.

Phobo: are you saying paint stripes all the way down the wall?  Got sample pics so I can see what it looks like?
