MIHALS' Daily Driver
« on: 28-Aug-2010, 19:53:43 »
Here it is - my "new" daily driver - Skoda Octavia Combi. She is brought from Germany from the first owner (61y/o), she's in a good condition, 137.000km on clock, servised at Skoda.

1.9TDI 66kW (90hp)
Very rare silver metallic paint - so rare that everybody had to have it when buing this car
Ultra-heavy-unsporty steel wheels with even worse tires
Modified front grill with no Skoda emblem for a hard car recognition
Tinted windows so nobody can see me being ashamed between the other 1,9TDI racers (here in Czech they really are the worst drivers thinking they have a mighty smoker which is the fastest car on the planet...)
Black interior
Climatronic
Car audio JVC ripped from my E30 (there I can listen engine noise, no radio  ) - on the picture is still old shitty Blaupunkt
iPod connection in the glove box
Electric front windows and mirrors
Onboard computer
Tow hook
Huge boot space!
Consumption: 4,8l/100km

Hope you won't throw stones at me for such car in this forum

congrats, very nice car, well equipped, the climatronic is one of the best from VW, i don't like that front grill so much.
first thing you have to do, put some 30mm springs to lower it, it's too high .

Roomy, reliable, and with low fuel consumption. The Skoda Combi is a perfect day-to-day car if you ask me. :good:

Brain decision and not a heart decision.
I would ad some comfy floormats, leather shiftknob and tata you have a reliable daily driver that helps saving some money for the beemer.

Before the wintertime Ialso probably have to find a new daily driver.

^^^ I fully agree.

And you won't get stones thrown at you for that. Certainly not if that means the E30 won't have to drive through loads of salt etc during the next winter.

It's a perfect family car and a daily driver.  :good: Now go and make babies quick!

I have basically only heard good words about Octavias and especially about the ones with the TDi. Good choise! :)

Ok, I voted for 'He had to be high on something' because that's just too funny not to vote for, but I do think it's a good buy.  All joking aside, this isn't the coolest car around, but it will be very useful, and that l/km stuff equates to...~48mpg, holy fucknuts!   Move over, Prius!  Congrats on the new car, even if it's not the most exciting thing (glowing praise, I know). :good:

got a little accident today - fell asleep behind the wheel... I'm okay, Skoda has the side scratched from the hardshoulders. I drove on the highway in the left lane, then the impact woke me up. I hit the left hardshoulders smoothly. looked quickly to the mirror to not put other cars in danger and stopped in the service lane. when I found that the car is just scratched, phoned my gf what happened and went back home to get some sleep. Now I know that catching up some sleep in car is not really a wise idea
I know that this little accident was a huge exclamation mark - it could end much worse... I didn't rest much last week - 2 days with no sleep to Frankfurt IAA and just 3 hours of sleep between sat and sunday...
Drive safe guys and always thing about being fresh!

Now it's more aerodynamic ;)

Sleep deprivation is an underestimated factor in the cause of accidents, some say it's even more dangerous then alcohol...

^ yup, especially when it comes to monotonous tasks like highway driving (according to a Mythbusters test)...

Nice car by the way, glad your accident remained pretty limited!!

Good thing you're ok buddy. A friend of mine totalled his dad's Toyota Avensis after falling asleep at the wheel, fortunately we walked away from the accident without a scratch. Every time I start feeling asleep, I stop inmediatelly... and believe me it's quite often when I drive long distances on highway.

yeah, as soon as I got home I went straight to bed and slept another 4 hours... I also checked with my friend the prices of used spare parts. it will cost me around 200Euros. Still worth more than being on the wheelchair for the rest of my life in better case...
