http://www.news.com.au/business/ferrari-recalls-exploding-458-italia-sports-car/story-e6frfm1i-1225913155994

ITALIAN carmaker Ferrari announced overnight it had recalled all versions of its model 458 Italia sports car produced before July 2010 after four of them caught fire.
"Our dealers are going to call clients and tell them to bring back their cars so that the necessary modifications can be carried out," a spokesman told AFP.

The recall involves 1248 vehicles worldwide, the official said.

Doesn't sound very professional of ferrrari. The F40 was stuck together by glue aswell and never had any problems..  :nutz:

Oh well at least they are giving out new cars

Sounds like they will just replace some of the liners.

The F40 was a clear case of "form follows function", while the latest models are pretty much the opposite.

Something similar, although not as dramatic, happened with early models of the 599: I remember some of them also ending up in fires

Well like you stated, just goes to show that the Ferrari which was just a chassis, an engine, 4 wheels and a plastic body without any electronics or other devices was THE best! Well at least in my mind..

I remember JC saying about the 599 that it looked liked Ferrari had lost its sense of humour and was taking it all to seriously, I did understand him back then. But with him now testing the F458 and saying its the best Ferrari ever he contradicts that a bit..  ;)

The thing is that Ferrari's are for the high-end market. People who pay those prices want luxury and technology in their cars. Many owners aren't even gearheads, proof is in the fact that the manual transmission is no longer offered because of the low demand.

Haha. Ferrari is like the Apple of computers...only they actually recall something if it doesn't a work. Apple would call that 'a feature' or 'a problem every car has'.

In all seriousness though, this just falls right into the idea of italian cars - sexy and fast, but they'll catch fire every now and again. :P

All the manufacturers have recall, but I'm bigger volume manufacturers are more used to it than Ferrari with relatively small number of cars produced annually. Self combustion is a serious problem though :bad:

Probably why I am always a fan of the stripped out hardcore versions and kitcars, more involvement for the petrolhead  ;)
