My 1970 Lancia Fulvia Rallye 1.3 S
« on: 26-Jan-2008, 12:15:29 »
In record time, here I am, home, with the Fulvia in the garage!
To think I paid the deposit around 24 hours ago. Thanks to my dad and some of his time, I was able to obtain the plates before evening and pick it up this morning.
As it was a marvellous morning, with pretty deserted roads, I took it for a spin along Como Lake and its stunning views.

The car feels very VERY special to drive, and I never owned such an old piece of kit. It's just mind blowing. So much different than modern cars, and obviously (for me) so much better. Everything is so pure, so classic yet so fresh.
The big steering wheel isn't razor sharp, the tiny tires don't give you ultimate grip, and 1000+ kp and 90 hp would be trashed by any modern hatch, but you don't give a flying crap about all of that to be honest.
It barely has 60'000 km, and many parts are new (engine head, carbs, exhaust system, brakes, wheels...). Only the interior shows the 37 years of life...

The jaw dropping soundtrack of the 1298cc engine come straight from another planet. So rich and still hungry for revs.
It's a 1970 car but it already has 4 discs providing stopping power. Being new, they don't perform perfectly yet, but they are great already.

The very long gear lever is strange, but you quickly get the hang of it, and all in all, it feels just perfect.

Just a pic for now. I need to eat something and then I'll be out on the road again obviously!

I suppose I am almost sure which car will take me to the NS this summer :D

I can be on the lake shores in some 10-15 min, yes. This was taken a couple of km down the road from Villa d'Este

Wow. What a classy ride! Hope it wont be too much of a hassle to maintain. Classic cars usually are...especially Italian ones. :D Looks in good condition!

Congrads on the purchase!

Congatulations with this great looking car.
Where does the Rallye stands for? Is it some kind of special trim or something?

Well, I tend to think such ideas need to be turned upside down. Everybody told me it was a mistake to buy an used italian bike, yet the Monster did 11'000 km with me since last summer (total 20'000) and is like new. Only time will tell, but so far I can still confirm the most expensive car to maintain in my garage is the A4, the newest one (and German)

LOL, indeed. The other day when we talked in MSN it was still a "work in progress" or rather a "I hope he will sell it" :D

Lucky bastard! You must come in "Motor Valley" with this car!...

Well, you never know :D The little lady already has two long trips planned for 2008: Nürburgring and Monte Carlo ;)

Congatulations with this great looking car.

Not really a special trim. It was just that in those years, the production car was basically created following the rally championship needs (dimensions, weight...), that's why the Rallye name was used on Fulvia's first series model. Rallye was basically the coupé while the 4 doors saloon was a regular Fulvia. Later on, it was just Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S...

Congratulations  :good: Take good care of that lady, can't wait to see her in the metal  :)

And this time if we'll end up with almost no petrol, it will be easier to push it, just in case ;)

Great choice, TT  :good: It's such a pure design, very elegant. Besides, how often do you drive a car with a V4 engine?

90 hp may not sound much, but from a 1.3 engine from 1970 it's very impressive! I can't wait to see it at the NS.

I bought it in Italy, very close to the border near Lugano in fact. And since the road going along lake Lugano and lake Como is quite an usual WE drive, I decided to take the long way round :)
