yea but you have to be the one that is not affected by it

True. It happened to us when we wanted to trade the old Clio for the new one. When it was time to sell it became a nightmare, dropping the final price 3000€ to be able to sell it. Now when it was time to buy... it happened the other way round: we got a 2500€ discount

Car looks great!

That's quite sad news for us E30 lovers especially if you have that engine I dream about! (the financial wise is the problem)

M20 2.5 run so cheap here.. can be had easily for around $300 USD.

bad news:

my car needs some serious surgery - the fire wall between the cabin and engine bay is rusted. we found it out AFTER they put new paint on the car, so now it would be silly to send the car to the world. it would only cover the paint expenses and the car would be gone, it would bring no money back...
Unfortunately I have no pictures. Well, maybe it's better that I haven't seen it - I was in Egypt. My friend was changing the oil and other parts + the glove box. behind it he found the rusted area. He says it's in a very serious condition, so my car is out of order now. I have to find out how much it will cost me, strip the car and tow it to a doctor. I guess I'm without wheels for some longer time - in this bloody cold weather :(
the worst thing is I have no garage to strip the car in...

behind the glovebox? normally e30 rusts behind the steering rack if the firewall is affected. You should check that area.
There is a big rubber plug where the cables are coming through and also a metal bracket which is often rotten. When I had my 318i the bracket was lying on the floor, I started looking more closly and discovered why I also had so much water in the foot are :D.

Sorry to say but repairing the firewall is a big job because access to it is very difficult. I transfered mine to m3 because it would have been a financial disaster rebuilding all of it. In your case I would upgrade to 325i when you already have the engine out of the car.
Only a real e30 expert can tell the difference between 320 and 325i so no troubles with police ...(just the intake is a tiny bit different)

Sucks to hear that Michal... that's one of the problems of driving a 20 year-old car as your daily ride. You should get yourself a crappy Fabia to drive everyday, and leave the beemer for special occasions.

C'mon a little enthusiasm inhere, look at it from the bright side - its an old car and these thing happen to old cars and good thing its reparable. If you'd take a lease on some new econobox you'd pay the price of this car in monthly payments 2-3x a year nomatter if you would drive it or not ;)

still nothing. our new flat had to get the highest priority in spending my savings...
I'm broke now, as soon as I save something up, I strip the car and give it to doctors' hands :)

not hi jack mihal's thread... but we're all e30 owners here ;)

My e30 ended up losing some power, seemed like the head gasket needed to be replaced + other various things. At the time I already had the MR2 on the road, so I let the e30 sit while I toyed around with the ideas of swapping in a S52 (e36 m3) motor or rebuilding the M20.. months went by.. saved a lot of money and decided to get the 944 since it was in pretty good condition at a decent price. At the time I still planned on fixing up the e30 to use as my winter car, but last October a great deal came up on an NYC apartment in the my favorite part of Manhatten (lower east side). So now that I'm buying an apartment in the city, I won't need a car to commute to work. I'm keeping the 944 at my parents, and selling the e30..

I'm so attached to the e30, I haven't even put ads up. Even though I know I don't need it.. it really is like selling off a child :(

Today my E30 can cellebrate a bit! Today my E30 got promoted to a FUN-CAR status  :drive:
It's because I bought a "new" daily driver - Skoda Octavia Combi 1.9TDI (its own topic will come as soon as I take some pics)
E30 needs a serious surgery, but now it's better situation as I don't have to drive her and with the half consumption of Octavia I can save up for spare parts. I'm not in any rush, it can wait
here is the couple, standing unpatiently outside and waiting, which one will go for a ride :)
