damn, good thing he got out in time! And that the doors could still be opened after such a heavy crash - testament to the car's strength? Too bad about probably losing another F1 forever.

If this is the actual photo the car doesn't look too bad. Ofcourse if burned after this then it's quite hopeles

looks like the CF monocoque / survival cell might just have remained intact (although it could very well have some cracks in it), with just the engine bay subframe being ripped off. However, the right hand side seems to be the most heavily damaged so it's hard to see the total extent of the damage.

I think this was discussed in the flemke topic on PistonHeads.com a while back. Off the top of my head I think maybe 4-5 have been total write-offs (out of 106 of all versions originally built), although it's hard to say for sure. The factory is pretty tight-lipped about it but I think they'll basically rebuild almost a full car if you have the cash. So a few cars out there that appear to have been totally destroyed could possibly have been rebuilt.

It's sad to see such a nice car crashed with the engine teared apart. But at least the car is (or was being) driven regularly by Mr. Atkinson, which is a good thing. If I'm not wrong, he mentioned the car had 30.000 miles on the clock, which is a lot considering the car. I bet it's the second most used car after Flemke's. I'm pretty sure that McLaren will be able to rebuild that. Afterall, it seems that the monocoque cell has remained pretty much intact (luckily).

sad to see the Macca crashed, but as Dani said - it was no garage queen and McLaren should be able to rebuild it again - hopefully

well, considering they charged BMW 80k to modify a GTR to install a passenger seat, I'm pretty sure McLaren are a bunch of whores and will have no problem taking Mr. Atkinson's money to rebuild it. Pretty sure it would take a fire to write one off completely.
